X Factor 2010: Judges notice Rebecca Ferguson’s nerves during ‘Yesterday’ (VIDEO)

Rebecca Ferguson wowed the X Factor judges once more this evening, with her rendition of The Beatles iconic song ‘Yesterday.’

Speaking to ITV’s website before her performance, the mum of two admitted that she was excited to be singing a song by a fellow Liverpudlian act. She said:

“I’m getting to sing a song by a nice scouse band! I’m really going to make it a unique sound. Every week I’m always nervous, I think you’ve got to be.”

For the first time we heard some tuning issues in Rebecca’s voice tonight and she seemed much more nervous than usual. She looked stunning dressed in a blood red trouser suit, with her luscious dark locks pinned on top of her head but performance wise, for us, this was Rebecca’s weakest so far.

Judges Comments:

Louis Walsh: Rebecca you bring something to this show called class, you are a class act. That is the most recorded song by the Beatles but you so made it your own. Rebecca I want to see you in the final.

Dannii Minogue: For me out of all your performances this wasn’t my favourite. You seemed a little bit nervous, particularly in the first part of the song, you seemed a little bit sad or not on top if it as you normally are. I still love the tones of your voice but for me it wasn’t the performance from you.

Cheryl Cole: I could feel your nerves tonight but since the shock eviction last week it’s no surprise.

Simon Cowell For the first time in weeks I have seen you look nervous again. However I actually feel that you mean the words of the song and for you, coming from Liverpool that was the absolute perfect tribute.

This was not Rebecca’s best and she should absolutely style herself and choose more upbeat music. They keep giving her the same kinds of songs and styling her way too old.

Of course this isn’t Rebecca’s best, but at least she tried to make a simple, simple song her own. I was wondering why Cheryl didn’t give Rebecca a more upbeat song? She seems to give Cher the best choice of songs, and if Rebecca is going to win she needs to be handled by a far more experienced mentor than Ms. Cole. I think she would do better if Simon was her mentor. This girl has an extraordinary voice and she needs to be handled differently to your ordinary everyday pop star wannabes.

I agree totally with both of the above comments….Becky is and always will be world class and I love Cheryl but girl, you’ve GOT to give Becky the same chances to shine as you’re giving Cher and Katie!!!! Becky’s EASILY the better singer/performer/recording artist out of the 3 of them but she needs to be able to show her versatility Cheryl!
I don’t think you’re being fair to Becky Cheryl, why should Cher and Katie get the chance to ‘mix it up’ each week while Becky is left singing ballads??? Yes she wows us with them week after week but let her surprise everyone with a more upbeat genre….she CAN do it! She’s NOT just a ballad singer!!!

I like her singing ballads- I far prefer it to her dance stuff. In the slow songs she has this lovely smoky retro tone; her dance stuff is powerful but to my ears just..piercing. To be honest I didnt like it that much – it didnt stand out – whereas I’ve loved alot of her performances on the show. I think they’re going the right route with her, though they could get her to move a bit and maybe lift the tempo a bit. Tonight admittedly wasnt her best but to be honest, win or not shes going to do well. Same applies to Matt. Theyre both winners.

I agree 100% with all the comments above. Rebeca is an amazing singer with a beautiful voice, she is also a beautiful girl, but is given boring ballads and dressed to look much much older than her age. This is not the Rebeca we saw at the auditions, she is becoming very predictable and boring. No way she could win the competition looking and singing the same thing week after week. I can sum up Rebeca in one word and hope it will be a wake-up call for this beautiful singer ‘BORING’.

  6. Olan says:

Still my favourite contestant but I do agree with all the above comments AND, can the bun on her head be any bigger??? Sheesh!!! She looks 40 instead of early 20s.

  7. ANNE says:

I agree with most of the comments. Rebecca is the most talented contestant on this show. However, she needs a mentor to give her insight and good guidance, some how I don’t think she is getting this. Rebecca start believing you really can do it girl.

  8. Jake says:

Not my favorite performance from her but it was still amazing. My personal opinion was that Cheryl gave Cher the song Becca should have sung,Imagine. She would have rocked it and Cher ruined it.I imagine Cher should be gone. :D

I am glad someone else had the same thoughts about Becca doing Imagine. Perhaps she is too meek to suggest to Cheryl which songs from the list that she feels is best for her voice. Obviously Cheryl wants Cher to be in the final. I hear her promoting Matt for the final. She should be saying that about her own act.

  9. Nell says:

Totally agree Jake. Imagine was the song for Rebecca. Cheryl did a poor job of mentoring Rebecca’s staging and performance last night. We shouldn’t be surprised. She appears to favour Cher, which is a pity & most unfair.
