X Factor 2010: Katherine Jenkins wants to replace Dannii Minogue

Popstar To Operastar mentor Katherine Jenkins has admitted that she would love to join the X Factor judging panel, if Dannii Minogue leaves this year.

Dannii recently announced that she is expecting her first baby and is due to give birth in July. She also admitted that she plans to have her baby in Australia, during the time where X Factor judges are normally filming for the upcoming series of the show.

Katherine told The News Of The World:

“I hear there could be a vacancy on The X Factor this year. So, Simon, I’m here – come and get me.”

“I am a mentor to contestants on Popstar To Operastar so I’ve made the move from stage to telly.

“It would be a similar kind of role so I am getting the relevant training to join Simon on the panel.

“I now know what he has to go through with the contestants. What it’s like to have to deal with them when they get upset. I totally understand why Cheryl Cole gets tearful too. I’ve been the same when some of the celebrities on my show are gutted to go home.”

On her time on PSTOS Katherine added:

“I see the guys on the show and it must be so hard for them.

“They are used to singing pop and then they have to do a completely different style of music. I am no Simon Cowell, I’m not tough enough, I can’t be the bad cop because the thought of upsetting them upsets me.

“I see myself as more of a Cheryl Cole. I’d like to work alongside her. She’s more of a pop girl and I do opera but we are both very passionate about our work.”

  1. Maureen says:

Well if Danni was leaving the programme and I don’t think she is someone to represent possible crossover contemporary artists might not be a bad idea, especially as last year all the existing team felt they could not mentor someone from Musical Theatre or Classical training.

I can think of a list of people who could do this who have truly crossed from opera to contemporary music and from contemporary to pop, whose initial training was classical.

I would love it to be someone not prone to tears and over sentamentality. It always strikes me as being crocodile tears and very false. Done for the show or at the direction of screen promting.
