X Factor finalist Mary Byrne took on a Take That classic on tonight’s live show.
It was a smart move, given that millions of TT fans caused ticket selling websites to crash for hours yesterday, as they scrambled for the chance to attend the boys 2011 tour.
In response to Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell’s request for her to do a more modern song, Mary said that she would try to grow as a performer. But Simon was a little flummoxed that he asked Louis to choose something more modern and he picked a song originally released by Barry Manilow back in 1973.
Tonight Byrne appeared in a bejewelled black maxi dress, complete with red horns for Halloween. Her eye makeup was so dark that at times she looked possessed! As for her vocals, they were flawless as usual however they did lack spark and we felt that the performance fell a bit flat. It sounded like a 1973 song and we think Mary should have channelled more Take That and less big nosed Manilow and she would have been a little more current..
Louis Walsh: You belted out every note in tune. Everybody on the street loves you. You are the peoples champion and I love you!
Dannii Minogue: Mary that was incredible. You are a class act and you are turning into the diva that we love.
Cheryl Cole: Good on you for getting into the spirit of things, it makes it a bit more fun. I think you could have gone a little more ‘I Put A Spell On You.’ song wise. You can sing anything, absolutely anything.
Simon Cowell Liked you last week, loved you this week. Mary that’s why we sit on this panel to help Louis when he’s in trouble. He got it really wrong last week, fun this week, great choice of song and I’ve got to tell you Mary….you’re a horny little devil.
