X Factor 2010: Matt Cardle gets a standing ovation after ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ (VIDEO)

Matt Cardle revisited his bootcamp performance on tonight’s X Factor show.

The former painter and decorator played it safe with his American Anthem and sang Roberta Flack’s ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’, just as he did in the initial auditions for the ITV series.

It may have been a safe choice but it worked for Matt tonight. His vocals were pure, smooth and beautiful and while we didn’t like his outfit and his strange beige trousers at all, the designer stubble and emotional tone completed the package for us. Best performance of his so far? It might just have been. Dannii Minogue obviously thought so too, as she was moved to tears by the time the tune concluded and all four judges awarded the singer with a standing ovation and some rapturous applause.

Judges Comments:

Louis Walsh: Another outstanding performance. The standard is so high tonight but I think you’ve stolen the show. With you, it’s all about the voice, that incredible recording voice. You are the person that everybody has to beat in this competition. I think you’re unstoppable.

Dannii Minogue: Matt, you not only had the audience on their feet tonight but all four judges too. t was a perfect performance and I wish everyone at home knew the story about why you sang that. I know it’s personal to your family but you could feel it in your performance.

Cheryl Cole:
That absolutely blew me away, it was amazing. I felt every single word that you said. It was spine tingling Matt, I get it, I totally get why you’re a favourite. Beautiful….absolutely beautiful!

Simon Cowell: Matt that was completely and utterly stunning! Just stunning. You knew you didn’t get it right last week, you didn’t blame anyone, you picked yourself up, acted like a man, got back on that stage, nailed the song and for me, this is the Matt and Rebecca show tonight.
