X Factor 2010: Semi-Final Club Classics songs revealed *UPDATED*
It’s the penultimate week on the 2010 X Factor series and a few of the song choice for Saturday’s semi final have already been revealed.
There will be two themes on the show, one of which will be club classics the other, as revealed by Liam Payne on the F Factor, will be “any song that can get you through to the final.”
Louis Walsh has already revealed that this weekend, only one person will be eliminated, meaning that four contestants will compete in the final show.
The four judges have lost all their powers and from now on will have no say in who goes and who stays. On Sunday night, the unlucky hopeful who misses out on the chance of singing with a big celebrity guest on the final, will be chosen purely based upon the public votes.
We will update Saturday’s songlist below as the choices come in.
Mary Byrne: Never Can Say Goodbye (Gloria Gaynor version) and ‘The Way We Were’ (Gladys Knight version)
She said: “This song I’ve been waiting the whole series to do. It’s a very beautiful song with some beautiful lyrics. I just know I’ll cry because I cried when I heard I was singing it. It’s my mother’s song, she always asked me to sing it and I hope that she hears it wherever she is. The nerves will turn to adrenalin and the adrenalin will turn to my heart and make me sing it.”
One Direction: Only Girl In The World by Rihanna and Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol
Cher Lloyd: Love The Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna & Nothin’ On You – B.O.B
Rebecca Ferguson: Amazing Grace and Show Me Love – Steve Angelo
Matt Cardle: You’ve Got The Love – Florence And The Machine and She’s Always A Woman – Fyfe DangerField
On Saturday’s upcoming show and the songs the judges have chosen for them, Matt, Rebecca and One Direction added:
Matt: “A song that’s really going to make me look good. I’m just amazed that I’m still in.”
Rebecca: “It’s just one of those songs that everyone knows and loves. I’m excited and I’m proud.”
One Direction: “It’s going to be the biggest moment of ours on the show.”

So Mary is going for sympathy again; time she was sent packing. She simply does not have the X-Factor in any shape or form.

Well whatever happens on Saturday will hopefully let Cher off the hook. Then she can go home and get herself a singing teacher to teach to her to sing over two years and learn properly. Rapping is not singing and whatever squealing comes from her is all wrongly placed. But there is a voice in there and it needs properly producing which is something the X factor is failing to do.
I’m also tired of Mary.
Mary is no where near as good a belter as Shirley Bassey
but would probably do very well on her local club circuit or in pier end theatre shows.

I’m a HUGE Cher fan, but i think that her singing “Fight for this Love” is a kiss of death, and she can kiss being in the finals goodbye. So I’m hope this song choice isn’t true, like how the Pink song last week wasn’t true
Cher is a cheryl copycat with no talent whatsoever. Matt is good, great voice. Mary has a nice voice but is too bland and sameish. She is good though. 1direction are ok, and they’ll appeal to girls. Rebecca rules, she’s my fave this year. Go Becky!

OK, so what’s the financial motive for having a four-way final….??….
Ah, yes: the viewing statistics! Next year’s X-Factor has to repair the damage of all the obvious “manipulations” of this one, so, first, the potential advertisers have to see big fat juicy audience numbers.
Then who are the viewers of least interest to the advertisers? The young ones! The just do not have the disposable income of Mary’s fans, and with a double elimination semi-final Mary would have had less than 0% chances of survival. Nothing, even manipulated by Simon, is guaranteed, but a single elimination gives Mary some chance of coming out in front of the execrable Cher. It’s a long shot for Mary, but Cher does seem to be disappointing some of her obvious audience, Cher’s version of rap starts with a “c”. Then some more of her obvious audience find her very unpleasant, and teenagers have enough unpleasant folk in their own lives, they don’t need to see their idols being plain obnoxious.
Which just leaves one more question: How do you run a final show with four contestants? It might even be necessary to allow the judges less time to bore us stiff with their puerile conflicts. Yeah, like THAT is liable to happen…

I think Cher will ‘kill’ the music of Cheryl… it should be the next to leave.
Mary has a great voice, but I think Matt and Rebbecca are better. One Direction are good kids, but will mature very muted the music. Therefore, I see Matt and Rebecca in front of others. I think it will be:

I think everyone who came this week, is because they are good at something. Cher is in this show, just because of their fans … that’s the truth. Find a better or worse one, is an opinion. Matt and Rebecca are the best in the competition, no doubt.

Matt’s a woman this week – so he’s gone from sounding like one to the full body operation then? He’s very overrated tbh. Average singer, average looking man, dressed like a scruff, almost like a busker with that hat, and nothing unique bout him at all, in fact he even sounds dull on the recordings. Cher is good. She’ll probably win.
The really boring Mary cruise ship to go next, then boring screechy Cardle. I liked him at first, but soon as he started trying to dance (and looked stupid) like a little drip and wearing a vest thinking he’s some heart throb, what a joke. Epic fail by Cardle. He needs to go and think again. Haha. Only sad and lonely middle aged women could really find that attractive because he can’t be 27, as he looks like he’s in his forties already!!!
Rebecca will do really well. One of her songs is Amazing Grace, but her other song is disco hit “Show me Love.” Google it if you don’t know it! It is awesome!

At the end of the day there’ll be a winner, worthy or not and no losers, but runners up who’ll do ‘very nicely thank you’ with a chance of becoming a recording artist or a handful of gigs. All of the contestants need to keep to reality and the prospect of returning to previous lifestyles, maybe with the gloss of becoming a minor celebrity. Good luck to them all and dreams be made.

At the end of the day, x factor is a singing competition, nothing else. As long as cher stands on that stage and sings a song, what does it matter if she sings, danni’s, cheryls, or Barney the dinosaurs song??? If the time comes that she signs a record deal then fair enough, she’ll need original material, but its not like she is the only X Factor contestant to sing a cover is it!! Belle Amie did a version of Stand by you… The same version Girls Aloud did, does that mean that they also are turning into cheryl?
I think people focus too much on the politics and also listen to what everyone around them say.
Cher is a 17 year old girl, amazing talent, more guts or bravery then any person slagging her to the ground has… she is the one on the verge of a shining new career that she WANTS to be part of, how many of you can say that for yourself??? If she were to win this show, she would re-establish herself as something entirely different to any young artist out there.
This is the thing that irritates me to the core also, The british public ( and yes i am british ) focus too much on everything else other than the actual sound that comes out of the contestants mouth, the reason these people put themselves through the x factor is because they want to be judged on their capability as a SINGER, not for who their mentors are!!!!
