Simon Cowell reportedly met with all of the X Factor contestants last week, to assure them that future decisions by the judging panel will be based on their singing and performing skills and nothing else.
Insiders say that many of the talented bunch were concerned when superior vocalist Treyc Cohen was eliminated from the show, while Katie Waissel was saved by the majority of the judges.
Although the individual mentors tried to reassure the singers, they were said to be so upset and worried that boss man Simon stepped in to allay their fears.
A source told The Mirror:
“This has been a stressful week as none of the acts expected things to turn out as they did.
“Before last week everything was clear in everyone’s mind – if you’re in the bottom two, the best singer will survive. Last week changed all that and it has really shaken the contestants up. They are worried that even if they nail it, they may still go out.
“All the mentors spoke to their own acts to try and put them at ease. But that just didn’t cut it and some of them were still obviously very concerned. That’s when Simon decided to speak to them all himself.
“That is a very rare step, because other than his own act One Direction, the contestants very rarely get to have a proper conversation with him.
“He sat down with them and told them not to worry at all. He said nothing had changed and this was still a singing competition which is decided by a public vote.
“His intervention definitely helped. However famous the other judges become, none of them hold the same sway as Simon.”
The source added:
“Even after he spoke to them there were still some major concerns. The acts are still more nervous than they ever have been.”
“Rebecca is definitely still quite concerned. If this show stops being a singing contest then she knows she could be in trouble. And the fact her best friend in the house has been voted out means she hasn’t really got anyone to confide in.”
