X Factor 2011: Tulisa criticises song choice during Amelia Lily’s ‘Think’ Movie Week performance (VIDEO)

Amelia Lily had a lot to prove when she took to the X Factor stage tonight.

The 17 year old singer was voted back into the series last week, as a replacement for disgraced contestant Frankie Cocozza and after stealing the show last Saturday, the pressure was on to repeat the high performance level again this evening.

The only problem was that Amelia was reportedly incredibly nervous and unhappy about her song choice this week and insiders claimed that she had a total meltdown after yesterday’s rehearsals, because she messed up her vocals so badly.

She emerged on stage this evening dressed in a funky jewel embellished tutu style dress, teamed with a leather biker jacket.

The vocals were great and we don’t know what Lily was so worried about. Our only complaint was the the backing track was a little slow and we would have preferred a faster more energetic rendition. But all in all, we think she’s safe from elimination tomorrow.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

LOUIS WALSH: Amelia last week you stole the show, you are definitely the comeback girl and the one to watch. You could go all the way! Kelly why did you send her home?

TULISA CONTOSTAVLOS: You are an absolute credit to this competition. You sounded amazing, you look amazing, the energy is amazing. The only issue is again song choice. It wasn’t well known enough. I don’t know that song.

KELLY ROWLAND: I think you did a great job mama and not everybody will know the song. But it’s all good, you had a great performance.

GARY BARLOW: Fantastic performance tonight well done. I am going to try and be constructive. I thought the whole track was a semi tone too high for you tonight, I thought that your rushed in places but in general I thought it was a great performance.

So, Tulisa has never heard of a song that was recorded by one of THE best female vocalists of all time? Pathetic.

    • guiwill says:

      agree!!!

    • Elaine Rogers says:

Oh my I have to agree Tulesa is so out of her depth, So far she hasn’t understood the concept of rock music and now admits to not knowing one of the most iconic songs by an amazing artist as Aretha Franklin, Im not a celebrity but get me out of here.

      • mellowmiles says:

totally agree. Risible. Saying that exposed Tulisa’s musical knowledge… or lack thereof. And I think Kelly Rowland (whom I’m normally not a fan of) aptly made clear without saying it…

  2. Emma says:

why is Tulisa a judge? She doesn’t know Aretha Franklin? Heaven help us!

  3. Keith says:

One of the greatest soul/R&B tracks of all time. How can you mentor any act Tulisa when you have such a limited repertoire.

    • Jo says:

I was mesmerised by that comment too… What do I know, but I can dream that song from A to Z.

Great performance, she has a nice voice, a good voice, she looked stunning… what more could you wish?

  4. Uksweetgirl says:

Tulisa you suck and Misha to win,, Well done Kelly-Misha team

  5. Rich says:

Gobsmacked! An Aretha Franklin classic featured in one of the all time iconic movie classics -Blues Brothers!?! Tulisa – your apparent lack of a wider musical knowledge reflects particularly badly on the credibility of the show. Respect to Kelly Rowland for her ‘diplomatic’ comments, which did not expose these glaringly apparent limitations.

  6. Jacqui says:

If Tulisa does not know that song, why the hell is she on the X Factor? Clearly she’s too inexperienced for the show.

  7. tanner says:

The whole credibility of this programme is going down the toilet.Artists know de vinci, classical musicians know mozart, athletes know carl lewis,Motor car enthusiasts know ferarri, and anyone who has any credibility in popular music should unquestionably know the queen of soul ARETHA FRANKLIN and most of her repertoire. At least have some dignity tulisa and do some homework dear or are they not paying you enough ?

  8. Kelly says:

What is Tulisa doing as a judge?! She can’t identify rock music and now she hasn’t heard of one of the Queen of Soul’s songs?!! Being young is no excuse. Any good musician will listen to music from all eras and all genres. Before making such a ridiculous comment she should do a bit of research, stop herself from looking such a numpty!

  9. tony says:

i bet Kelly enjoyed last nights show

  10. mellowmiles says:

oh dear me Tulisa say it isn’t so…

  11. Goodness Me says:

The comments about Tulisa’s lack of knowledge have been very well made…she should be ashamed and is not viable as a judge on this program. Interesting to note, Little Mix performed and En Vogue song…mmm, I believe Kelly has been making a link to En Vogue for Little Mix for a few weeks now. Probably inspired Tulisa to google who the hell they are, thus I think we can safely credit Kelly for the Little Mix song choice. Tulisa, you’re a joke and it’s time for you to be voted off….

  12. Gee says:

If Gary Barlow made some crtics, it’s just because the tunes or the vocals isn’t that good enough, but Louis and Tulisa makes his life hell. And now, Tulisa really shows she’s not even worth to judge a sinking ship. Music knowledgeless, even for a mediocre singer to titled her is already a big compliment for her. Louis, the headache of the panel, he’s the totally worst judge, anyway! My Gosh…Tulisa and Louis back off!!!

  13. U betta think...before speaking Tulisa says:

Lets all forget that “Think” is a feminist anthem…..Tulisa shame on you smh
