Sources behind Simon Cowell’s new American X Factor series say that Cheryl Cole may not be offered a judging position.

It seemed a certainty that Cheryl Cole would take her seat at Cowell’s right hand side on the new series to launch in 2011, however producers are said to be convinced that three Brits on the show would be too many. They will now have to choose between Dermot O’Leary as a presenter, or Cheryl Cole as a judge.

A source told The Daily Star: “Producers are concerned that having three Brits in major roles could be a turn-off for American viewers. It’s no secret that Americans love the Brits but it is called the American X Factor.

“Having three out of the five main roles taken up by British stars is seen as excessive. It’s early days yet but bosses are believed to favour either Cheryl or Dermot rather than both.”

If true, the news will no doubt b a blow to Cole, who is reportedly considering a full time move to LA in a bid to escape her current marital problems.
