Craig Colton caused quite a stir when he showed up to try out for the X Factor earlier this year.

The 22 year old from Kirby nr. Liverpool told Dermot O’Leary that his parents were watching in the audience at the city’s Echo Arena, but had no idea that he was about to take to the stage.

He said:

I work in a biscuit factory; it’s the most boring job in the world. I’m living with my mum and dad at the minute and I do love living at home because I get my meals and my ironing done… I can’t say that, she’ll shout at me! I’ve come with my friends today, but my mum and dad are inside and they don’t know that I’m auditioning

He added:

Not only have I got to impress the judges, but I’ve got my mum and dad watching me, that will be fun! I’d love to be on the stage, I just want to make my mum and dad proud.

Explaining the situation a few moments later to judge Louis Walsh, Craig added:

They definitely know I sing but they don’t know I’m here today. I just told them that I was gutted that I couldn’t go because I was in work this morning, so I made my mum iron my uniform so it was believable. Sorry mum!

The hopeful then sings Adele’s ‘Hiding My Heart’.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Gary: You seem really shocked by the reaction of the audience, as everyone were on their feet, and rightly so, you deserve all the applause you got today.

Louis: that was an amazing audition because what we are looking for is someone with a recording voice, and you’ve definitely got a recording voice.

Tulisa: I’m not going to lie, I was not expecting you to have a vocal like that, and you started singing and this amazing voice came out, your funny as well, I love it.

Kelly: Craig, you are a true performer, you came up here, you wooed everybody with your voice, with your wit, I love how quick you are with everybody up here, and I think you are adorable.

Louis: This is the moment of truth, now this is when we vote…
