X Factor 2011 Results: Gary Barlow sends James Michael home

Gary Barlow seemed to deliberate for a while but tonight, he finally decided to eliminate James Michael from The X Factor.

The Take That star had a hard choice on his hands, having to decide between Marcus Collins, Craig Colton, James Michael and Frankie Cocozza as part of tonight’s twist, but in the end you unreality TV readers got it right when you predicted in our poll that James would never perform on the X Factor stage again.

Last night Gary seemed blown away by Craig’s version of ‘Jar Of Hearts’ and weren’t at all surprised when he saved him, after all he named it as the ‘performance of the night.’ Frankie seemed safe too, as Barlow has always had a soft spot for the cheeky chappy and seemed to enjoy his rendition of ‘The A Team’ on Saturday.

However, the other judges weren’t fussed on James’ version of Ticket To Ride (video here) and were much more complimentary about Marcus Collins’ version of ‘Moves Like Jagger’ (video here).

So it was no shock when Gary put Marcus and Craig through first and next revealed that he also wanted to keep Frankie and therefore bin James. Barlow explained:

Based on last night’s performance for me, the last boy I’m sending through is Frankie.

Afterwards he told Michael:

“There were four people left and they were at such a high level here, I had to choose someone. I’m so sorry James but well done!”

James said:

“No matter what I’m going to carry on and use it.”

Also on tonight’s show, Jonjo Kerr was eliminated by Louis Walsh and there were two great performances by former X Factor winner Matt Cardle (video here) and The Voice judge Cee Lo Green (watch his appearance here).

Were you shocked by Gary’s decision tonight? Do you think he made the right call? Leave your comments below.

I must have been watching a different show to Gary Barlow. James has a really great voice.

    carry on with music, surely?

  4. Silvio says:

Tonight Gary lost all of his credibility. Keeping Frankie, the worst singer, instead of James, best tone, is laughable. I foresee another Leon Jackson situation.

James was amazing and could have really been something special, Gary Barlow is a joke, putting through crap like Frankie, what is his obsession with him? He had a go at TuLisa last night over her love for 2 Shoes, when he’s just as guilty!
