X Factor 2011 Results: Kelly Rowland sends Amelia Lily home
We felt so sorry for poor Kelly Rowland on The X Factor this weekend.
The Destinys Child star may have looked stunning in a figure hugging Roberto Cavalli dress (pictured here), she had to choose one act from her four girls to eliminate on tonight’s results show and was the only judge with no easy choices.
Each other category had some very obvious fodder and singers who no one would really miss from the competition, but – perhaps because she chose so well at judges houses – Rowland had four strong competitors, who each performed brilliantly on last night’s live show and who each bring something unique to the series.
We would have loved the producers to introduce another twist tonight, which saw Louis Walsh eliminating two contestants (preferably Johnny Robinson and Kitty Brucknell) and Kelly to be spared her agony.
But it wasn’t to be and in the end, the brunette beauty explained:
“The four of you ladies are so incredibly talented and unique in your own way. This decision has been so tough but the first person I am going to put through is Janet.”
“This decision that I made, I want you girls to know that you are all such stars.”
She then saved Misha B and between Amelia and Sophie, Rowland chose to save Habibis meaning that Lily was going home.
Rowland tried to commiserate with her axed contestant saying:
“It was so hard and I just know Amelia has an incredible voice and all four of my girls are so amazing, so I just had to make a decision. But y’all are going to see this girl everywhere! She has an incredible voice, she’s confident, she’s bold and she’s young and the sky is the limit for her.”
Also on tonight’s show James Michael was axed, Jonjo Kerr was eliminated and 2 Shoes were sent home.
Also there were two great performances by former X Factor winner Matt Cardle (video here) and The Voice judge Cee Lo Green (watch his appearance here).

No no, Kelly was out of her depth with Amelia. A rock chick? Kelly knows nothing of that genre. I guess Amelia fell victim to her mentor’s ignorance.
I wish she didn’t vote off Amelia, she was my favourite to win!
Kelly voted off the wrong girl!

Right choice. She is amazing but last night she was the least impressive of the girls. Most people wanted Sophie because she had very short screen time, so people didn’t have the opportunity to know her and connect with her.
To choose the girls, the best thing we could do was:
- forget all the others performances alast and focus only on last night’s ones
- close our eyes and just listen to them singing
If we all did that, there would be no way people considered Sophie to be eliminated
What a joke. Amelia offered as the sacrificial lamb to get a few more ratings. I hope she gets signed to a record label, and makes a mockery of the X Factor.
They clearly wanted her out. The other three girls were able to express their voices singing ballads and sitting down. Amelia was given a Michael Jackson song and big dance routine! No one in the world could have sounded the best singing that! Shame

she was the worst last night, so i think kelly made the right decision.

we all love Amelia lily but why should she go through when other girls were better than her yesterday?..
well, Jade Richards was axed too because her Judges house performance didn’t match up to others..

Well, I imagine that next year Kelly Rowland will not be in the show! First she sacks Jade Richards (the biggest mistake of the season) and now Amelia? LOL Incredibly wrong!
It’s funny because no one who is screaming about Amelia getting axed is arguing that she gave the worst performance of the girls last night. It would have been unfair to Sophie to put Amelia through because she has been better in the past. And if Amelia was as good as everyone claims then she would have performed the hell out of her song last night, but she didn’t. And Ruby, it’s fine that you don’t like Misha but to refer to her in the way you did is incredibly ignorant. I wonder what your problem is with her??

I cannot understand why all seem not to understand why Kelly voted off Amelia: she was the weakest girl yesterday and she didn’t give to her song her unique style… But well, I dind’t see her unique style in the whole series (I would prefer to put Jade in her place really; Amelia’s not bad,but not good as her).
Between the four girls, my favourite is Sophie, and Janet is growing up inside me; so, it would be between Misha and Amelia and… for me, I would vote off both and brought Jade back haha. Sophie is unique and her rendition of ‘Teenage dream’ is, by a mile, the best performance of the contest until now.

It was all about the song. Amelia has the most ridiculous song to sing. Would like to have seen Janet or Sophie take on Michael Jackson as the show opener
Unlike the other judges, Kelly put through true talent at the judges houses and no joke acts, so tonight was going to be the toughest for her, getting rid of someone out of four amazing girls!
Kelly made the absolute best decision. Her category was the hardest because all the girls are talented but Amelia was the weakest. Sophie suffers from not getting enough character time but her singing was incredible. Misha was unbelievably good and Janet stepped up yesterday (she usually annoys me) plus she’s a public favourite
what i think kelly did was: she couldn’t eliminate janet because she’s becoming the public’s fav and she seems to like her a lot (or maybe she’s doing for the television), misha brings a different style to the show, she’s an r&b singer, she raps, she’s fashionable..so kelly wouldn’t get rid of her either. so it was between amelia and sophie and although she also seemed to like amelia – and i do think amelia would do well in the competition and is a potential recording artist – she picked the one who she likes the voice best and who has a more unique style, in terms of voice. it’s clear that kelly cares a lot about the voices. i personally love sophie, her voice is incredible and very current too.
You are so right! Sophie is a brilliant singer and she has a recording voice. I think that technically she is as good as Rebecca Ferguson, for example, but for some reason people loved Rebecca but say this girl is boring. You could easily see that Kelly wouldn’t vote Sophie off because of her facial expressions when she listens to Sophie singing.

As much as I like Amelia and hated to see her leave, this was the right decision. For me, all four of the girls were easily in the top half of the performances last night, so it’s a shame to see any of them go.
I wanted all of them to stay.I’m really sad for Amelia.Also I must say I didn’t like Misha’s attitude last night.I know she’s talented,but she has to learn to be humble.The show hasn’t finished yet.That kind of attitude(I have a crown,I’m the queen)can cost her a place in the competition.
What attitude?? She’s always thanking the judges and happened to wear a crown as part of her costume. She gets along with all her houseguests (see her interaction with Frankie on the Xtra Factor) and she seems genuinely grateful to be there. Unfair comment
Amelia had to leave. She was the weakest singer on Saturday, although she’s done much better in the past. It was the wrong song for her, and it wouldn’t be fair if Amelia was picked over Sophie based on what she’d done in the past. Its a shame, I liked her
I think everyone (including the X Factor producers) is missing a huge mistake in this years format twist. It would have been much more conducive and fair to the real talent remaining in the competition before Sunday’s vote, to allow the mentors to vote off ANY singer or group they chose, not just from their own category. This way we wouldn’t end up with the karaoke singers left in while true recording talent is rejected. Isn’t that obvious ?
I completely agree. I think that because of the circumstances, it should be Amelia the girl that Kelly should send home but it’s so unfair that she is sent home while Johnny, Frankie and Nu Vibe are still in the competition. That’s the problem of this show when the level of each category is too different.
For me the acts that should have been voted off, if X Factor did like you said, are: Jonjo Kerr, Johnny Robinson, Nu Vibe and Frankie or James.
Right decision to send Amelia home, she was the worst on Saturday.
Granted Amelia didn’t shine on Saturday but that’s because she was given a really inappropriate song to sing, she has undoubtedly the strongest and most versatile voice of any of the contestants, unbelievable considering her age. She will get a recording contract and do very well anyway.
I know why Kelly voted Amelia off:
1 – Janet is her favourite
2 – Misha is black, raps and always her own twist in the songs she sings
3 – Between Amelia and Sophie: the public needs to know Sophie a bit more and Amelia will do great outside of the competition

i dont think amelia should have been voted off she has an extremley powerful,and amazing voice yh she could have done a bit better on saturday but think about all the other times she has done brilliantly.to be honest i think janet or sophie should have gone home!!!
Judging by the press and comments everywhere it now sounds as though everyone is realizing the mistake that was made by this extremely unfair voting twist, and maybe there’ll be another twist yet to come. For now I think Amelia may be better off forging a serious career for herself without the baggage that X Factor can bring.
