X Factor 2011: Shy Janet Devlin leaves Kelly Rowland ‘entranced’ with Your Song

Janet Devlin is possibly the cutest X Factor contestant ever and we took a real shine to her, the first moment we saw her at Wednesday’s press screening of the ITV show.

When the series returns this Saturday night, life will no doubt change massively for the unassuming teenager from Gortin, Co Tyrone, who showed up to Birmingham to audition for the celebrity judges dressed in a cute dress but seriously dowdy oversized woolly cardigan.

The 16 year old looked nervous and trepidatious when she first took to the stage, telling the judges that she lives in the middle of the countryside and has been writing her own songs since the age of seven as a way of keeping herself amused.

Speaking about standing on the huge stage and performing for thousands of people, the bashful singer added:

‘It feels like a dream, like I haven’t even woken up yet.’

However, when she started to sing, the whole place was enthralled by Janet and her Ellie Goulding style version of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ was haunting and very, very pretty. She definitely had a bit of the Diana Vickers vibe, without the whole claw thing going on.

After the performance, the judges raved about Devlin’s skills.

Wiping the tears away, Kelly Rowland admitted that she was ‘entranced’ by Janet’s ‘beautiful’ voice, adding ‘What a wonderful audition!’

Tulisa Contostavlos liked that she was ‘so shy’ and told Janet that she really does have a strong ‘recording voice.’

Louis was just happy to have an Irish girl on the stage and Gary Barlow was happy to have found someone who has the whole package.

You can watch a video of Janet singing her audition piece here and after you view it, let us know, do you think she can make the live shows?
