X Factor 2011: Theme changed from Motown to Rock Week for Frankie Cocozza?
Those X Factor bosses just can’t make their mind up.
For the last two weeks in a row, Frankie Cocozza has had his song changed at the last minute and today, it has been announced that they’ve changed the entire theme this afternoon.
It had previously been reported that contestants were to choose songs with a Motown / R&B feel and then some sources claimed this had been changed to ‘Heroes.’ However, Digital Spy say that producers will now run with ‘Rock Week.’
Simon Cowell also ran with a rock theme on last year’s series of the ITV show and also in 2009, you can see the full songlist for that episode here.
In 2010 Wagner Carillho sang ‘Creep’ from Radiohead, Cher Lloyd sang ‘Girlfriend’ by Avril Lavigne and Matt Cardle gave a memorable rendition of ‘Nights In White Satin’. In 2009, Joe McElderry gave his show stopping version of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ and Jedward took on Five’s version of ‘We Will Rock You’
An official X Factor rep said: “The change of theme weeks was a production team decision to take contestants out of their comfort zone. Production regularly change themes late in the day.”
Some readers have commented that the move to Rock Week, may be a bid to help save show favourite Frankie Cocozza, who found himself in the bottom two last week.
It’s a theme that would fit better with his style than ‘Love and Heartbreak’ and Gary Barlow did promise his performance would be of a much higher standard this Saturday.
What do you think of Rock Week? What songs would you suggest for the contestants? Leave your comments below.

X Factor don’t do rock well, it’s the one genre they’ve no idea about! As for Frankie the rocker, puh-lease!!!
this obsession with Frankie has got to stop
@ ‘?’… If that list was intended to be a ‘rock week’ one, I despair of this nation.
The X Factor’s idea of ‘Rock’ is sketchy at best…although I hope Janet gets allowed to back to her heavy metal fan roots and pulls out an incredible reworking of a heavy metal classic…
Well it did not work – Frankie looked absolutely ludicrous. He has to leave.
