X Factor 2012: 2,500 viewers complain to OFCOM about Carolynne Poole elimination – Gary Barlow’s standing by her!

More than 2,500 X Factor viewers have submitted complaints to OFCOM this week it has been confirmed.

Carolynne Poole was eliminated from the ITV show on Sunday night, after finding herself in the bottom two with Rylan Clark.

The pair performed in a sing off, in which she delivered a strong and melodic rendition of ‘There You’ll Be’, which was moving and emotional, while Rylan struggled to stay in tune during his performance of ‘One Night Only.’

Gary Barlow later admitted that when he heard the save me songs, he was confident that his contestant would be staying, but it wasn’t to be and when the deciding vote lay with Louis Walsh – and even though he first uttered the words ‘I want to save Carolynne’ – he ended up saving Clark and taking the show to deadlock.

After some eagle eyed fans noticed Louis speaking to a member of staff – who turned out to be executive producer Richard Holloway – during Poole’s performance, fix allegations quickly swept the internet like wildfire and fans reacted badly to the idea that they may have been duped and that Carolynne’s exit was set up by bosses.

The Mirror have confirmed that a massive 2,500 people have lodged complaints with OFCOM over Louis’ decision, with more than 1,000 complaining to TV channel ITV.

Many viewers have emailed Unreality TV, to complain about Carolynne’s treatment. Here are a very small selection of your comments:

‘bring carolynne back after all that unfairness..so staged, because of this me and my friends will never watch x factor again, we all loved carolyne, everyone did our familie friends, friend friends love her.. coplete bulls**t, R.I.P X Factor’

‘It is an absolute disgrace Louis Walsh is past it and needs to move on. When he struggles to make a decision like that I have lost all respect for him. The show was fixed and ITV have some explaining to do!’

‘Its a joke louis took so long deciding who to vote home because he didnt know whether to do what was right and vote rylan home or to do what the producers had just told him to do! ‘

Carolynne is trying to keep her chin up following her disappointment and tweeted her followers last night saying:

‘Thank you all for all your lovely comments, really do mean a lot to me & are keeping me focused on the bigger picture. Love ya’s xxx’

She added:

‘Only just getting the chance to read all ur lovely comments. so overwhelmed by your amazing support, thank u so much. Xxxxxx’

Gary Barlow – who walked off stage as the result was announced – still seems a little shell shocked too and wrote:

‘Been hard to get motivated today. @CarolynnePoole good luck. Anything you need I’m here’

What do you think of the whole scandal? Have you complained to OFCOM? Leave your comments below….

I don’t think there is nothing wrong with the show. I do think it is time to lose judges thought. I do like Louis and it won’t be the same but it is just time for him to go now and I saw other news and think Maybe it is time for a new judging Panel but I would keep Gary and Tulisa literally because they take it so much more seriously and possible get Mel B.

Apples is apples and oranges is oranges.
If you have a sing off, then it is a … sing off.
The only reason you go to deadlock is if the sing off is so close the judges are split on who won it.
A sing off has a big clue in the title as to what it is all about: SING!
Judged purely on the singing – that took place – a sing off folks – there was no doubt who won it.
That is why everybody is complaining that it is fixed.

These are not the public’s rules. They are X Factor’s rules. Either they follow them or the show loses our respect.

This has nothing to do with Rylan or Carolynne (though I feel indignant that the show has treated Carolynne in this way, and Rylan has already made enough of a splash to become one of those celebrities who are famous because they – sing? Nah – but who are famous because they are, er, famous!)

If I pick up the ball playing football I cannot suddenly say we should be playing rugby. Rules are rules!

  4. Wendy says:

Why should she be brought back ? It went to deadlock and more people had voted for Rylan – how many of the people who complained to offcom actually voted for Carolyn I wonder ? This happens every yr !

    • Sarah-Jane says:

Whether she recieved the most votes isn’t the point here Wendy! Fair enough if it was only down to public votes, but it’s the judges responsibility to judge whether Carolynne stays or goes. It had to be judged on the vocal performance in the sing off & in the end it didn’t all unfold fairly in many viewers’ opinion. It’s a load of rubbish that the judges have to say who they want to send home in a certain worded sentence as this has never been mentioned in past series & by the way Louis said he wanted to send Carolynne through, it basically means the same thing. What he said was frankly clear enough for the audience & contestants to understand, you could tell by the way they reacted! Yet when he said that he wanted to send it to deadlock, O’Leary was able to fully submit his decision into action. How is that right? Please do tell me Wendy.

    • Sarah-Jane says:

It may have went to deadlock Wendy but the way it was done just sounds wrong! If the rule really applied that Louis had to word who he wanted to send home a certain way, then the only acceptable answer to Dermot’s question would be “I’ve decided that I want to send Carolynne home” turning it into a tie. But oh no the “I want to send it to deadlock” is acceptable because it does mean the same thing. One rule for one side & one rule for another side of it then! The words “I want to send Carolynne through to the next round” means the same as wanting to send Rylan home so why on earth wasn’t that allowed? I hope you get everyones’ drift now Wendy :P

    • Sarah-Jane says:

Now, do you honestly, really believe Rylan recieved more votes Wendy? Please do widen your eyes hen, don’t turn a blind eye to this like the people who haven’t stood up to complain about this whole fix to ofcom have. Dermot didn’t even look inside the envelope he was given if you were watching very carefully. No surprise there as I’ve seen this happen before in one of the previous series. But anyway more to my point, the public wouldn’t be roaring in so much disgust & despair if Rylan had a higher percentage of votes, just wouldn’t make sense that would it? Lol, basically all I’m trying to send across to you in this post is, the public’s reaction & views on this displays a very different conclusion to X Factor’s final “result”.

  5. Jane says:

This is just ridiculous. Carolyn is a good singer, but there are much better in the competition. She’s also dull and won’t make Saturday night nearly as entertaining as Rylan will. If Caroyln is brought back, I would stop watching as she was at the bottom and deserved to go.

  6. Katy says:

Not sure it’s right to bring her back at this stage but I do think the whole process has been cast into so much doubt and is utterly contrived. Producers need to take a long hard look at the way they do things. Why distract a judge who should be paying attention to the act that is performing and that they will be required to make a life changing decision upon. What could have been so overwhelmingly important in that moment? Louis sole purpose was to watch, listen, judge and vote, and not to be having another conversation, unless of course it was to influence his decision.

    • Sarah-Jane says:

I have to say you have summed all of that up perfectly Katy, couldn’t have worded it all much better myself :) I see exactly what you are trying to point out & I see it from a similar angle so very well worded :)

  7. Sarah-Jane says:

Oh & can I also just add the timing of when Louis was lured into that “conversation”, why the hell couldn’t this have taken place at a much more appropriate time such as after the judged made their decisions or during a break? I mean if it was really so important & off the topic of the sing of like Caroline Flack mentioned, then surely Louis shouldn’t of had to be distracted with a whole different topic of discussion whilst focusing on judging somebody’s performance? That’s very off putting & if anybody had tried doing that with me, I would have said we could discuss it later on when something else was much more important to do at the time, even if it was my manager! :D

  8. Sarah-Jane says:

Even more of a reason to think it was all a set up! Can’t believe people like Flack STILL thinks she can cover it all up again when too many things say otherwise which makes what’s happening too obvious to just ignore & swipe under the carpet!

  9. Darren says:

Clearly Louis Walsh twice stated he was saving Carolynne. The show is sending out terrible signals to young people. I have read thousands of online complaints stating the show appears to be fixed and this should be investigated however i would also stress that at a time when our country needs to encourage hard work and talent that the abuse of talent clearly is a discrace and very offensive to intelligent viewers. I do not want my children to watch a show that states that it is a singing contest but appears to be a money making machine with no regard for its viewers or contestants. I suggest that this show is unsuitable for family viewing and an apology should be made by ITV to all viewers.

    • Jules says:

      Well said.

    • Sarah-Jane says:

While everything you have said makes sense Darren, the apology bit I simply think is nowhere near good enough. This show has been fixed for atleast two or three series conning viewers out of literally millions which all goes to Mr Cowell & his fabulous, perfect lifestyle! This isn’t a family programme so I think they should either change their target audience or axe the show alltogether.

  10. nikki says:

i would like to know what Simon Cowell thinks of all this crap and is he going to do anything about it cause if nothing is done to change things i think X factor will be no more.

  11. Dan Carney says:

Gary Barlow should phone her up say do u want to come to the show to wind up Simon Cowell Richard Hollaway who i think should be sacked Carolynne be brought back ASAP

  12. Pete says:

The show is a joke what happend on Saturday Louis Walsh is a prick carolynne it’s louis Walsh that should go will not be watching the show again

  13. Nigal says:

I’m not going to watch X factor again it’s put me off watching it

  14. George says:

I want Louis Walsh sacked he don’t know what he’s doing

  15. Tobie says:

I was disgusted with the way Louis Walsh dealt with this whole thing. I am convinced that this is a fix and predetermined by people in the upper exchelons of ITV who look at making controversial TV so they can get the ratings and viewing up… It smacks of desperacy. Well I hope that there are thousands who feel the way I feel now;… I will not watch Xfactor anymore…. Unfortunately! Caroline is a true talent and I am so sad she is gone. She is unpretencious and a level headed person. I will buy her records. Rylan gets support by drama….it is so artificial and ungenuine. For me there is no space for people like him in show biz, unless it is about overdramatising emotions! Its a disgrace that Louis is selling his soul. I have lost all my respect for him and XFactor! Gary Barlow is the only one that really knows what that program should be about – TALENT, SINGING TALENT (oh and Tulisa too). For Louis it is a game I think!

  16. Tobie says:

I forgot to say; I hate Louis for doing what he did….

  17. Kevin says:

Bring carline poole back then I will watch X factor again

  18. Kelly says:

U call Louis Walsh a judge can’t the old fella hair a good voice

  19. Kenny says:

    Bring carolyn back

  20. Kyle says:

There’s know point watching x factor anymore now carolyn has gone

  21. Kerry says:

    Carline should not of went

  22. Josh says:

    The show is a fix

  23. Anna says:

Hi wendy just to stay I am getting sick and tied of the negative results from the judges complaining to the talented singers including Christopher the only one that nows the business is GARY BARLOW and also sack LOUIS and sack TULISA they also always send it to dead lock is not fair sending home the good singers and sending through the crep ones like Riley Gary Barlow nows the music business they don’t
