X Factor 2012: Belfast’s Jade Collins shines and sings ‘Sweet Dreams’ for her jailbird dad (VIDEO)
We reported earlier this year that Jade Collins would be one to watch on this year’s X Factor series and tonight you’ll get to see why.
The Belfast born teenager tried out for the ITV show earlier this year and at the time, insiders told Unreality TV that the judges had been blown away by her strong vocals and sense of musical identity.
On tonight’s penultimate audition show the 17 year old will be featured and before taking to the stage, she told producers:
“I started singing when I was back in school probably about 8 or 9. I would always be interested more in in music than anything else. I’ve came to The X Factor because I’ve watched it for years and years and I want this to be my day job this is what I want to do. I live at home with my mummy, my sister and my two younger brothers.”
Jade’s mum explained that her daughter id totally dedicated to her future music career and added:
“Jade’s been practicing morning, noon and night, she holds a wee part time job so in between that and going to school every minute she’s been just practice, practice, practice, it makes me really proud of her.”
Jade is especially close to her mother, as she doesn’t have much contact with her father currently. She confessed:
“I don’t really live with my daddy at the minute, he’s like in and out of my life.”
“He took the wrong path and wasn’t really there for us. I don’t want to cry. He was in and out of jail his whole life and just wasn’t there for any of us. My daddy’s been in prison ever since I can remember. I just want him to be here and he can’t be here, I can’t change that and I never can. Today’s audition is so important, this could really, really change things in my life, I’d just be much happier if my daddy was here to see this.”
Later in the day, Collins told Gary Barlow:
“[My dad's been in prison for] as long as I can remember from when I was a baby, he’s been constantly just in and out.
The teenage hopeful then belted out a rendition of ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Beyonce
Judges’ Comments:
Louis: Jade, you are so wrong and you are so emotional, it’s like you’ve got so much pain inside.
Gary: Jade I’m going to tell you off slightly, you didn’t warm up properly this morning; you were struggling with some of the high notes.
Tulisa: Jade we always look for a spark when someone steps on stage, where you just go there is something here and it’s something special and I saw that in you today.
Anastacia: You are 17 and you have so much passion in your heart.
Tune into the X Factor tonight to see Jade’s full audition and to find out whether she made it through to bootcamp or not. If she made it past that stage, Collins will be working with Tulisa Contostavlos who is mentoring the girls this year.
Check out some footage of her performing and tell us, do you think she’s good enough for the live shows?
