X Factor 2012 bootcamp: Jahmene Douglas’s panic attack causes worry for Gary Barlow! (VIDEO)
Jahmene Douglas felt the pressure when he reached the final stage of X Factor bootcamp.
During the first day, the Asda staff member messed up and forgot his lyrics to ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and scraped through to the final day’s performances by the skin of his teeth.
Before taking to the stage in Liverpool’s Echo Arena he confessed:
“Today there’s a lot of pressure on me because yesterday I let myself down a lot, didn’t impress the judges at all. Can’t afford to let the same thing happen today. In this two minutes on stage you can either lose it or do your best, that’s it. One chance.”
He added:
“I don’t feel I have enough to perform to my full potential today.”
Douglas later told producers that he was feeling ill and admitted
“I’m just feeling really dizzy, like I might pass out….. I’m so scared I’m gonna pass out.”
As staff take him to see the paramedics, he confessed:
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I’ve never felt like this before…I just feel so weak.”
Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh were concerned about the hopeful and came backstage to check on how he was feeling.
He told them:
“I did badly yesterday, I just need it to be perfect.”
The Irish music mogul tried to give him a bit of a pep talk and said:
“Pick yourself up, we believe in you so much. You’re going to be great, take your time.”
Nicole added:
“I need you to remember why you’re here and why you love to sing. We can’t wait to hear you, no matter what you do, all we can ask is that you just sing your heart out, that’s all you can do.”
Eventually Douglas did feel well enough to perform and sang ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ for the panel.
Dizzy or not, the crowd and the judges loved the performance but Gary Barlow was keen not to give too much away and told him:
“Jahmene, for all the performers it’s a heavy, emotional ,stressful week, it really is and this is how it’s taken it’s toll on you. The good news is, you can sing, you really can. I think it’s time for us to let you go right now.”
Nicole later said:
“We have a lot of stuff we need to work with him on and it’s not his voice. Everything else is holding him back.”
Tulisa mused:
“He needs lots of support, lots of care, make him feel confident, because imagine the live shows.”
Gary though Jahmene might be a bit of a lost cause and insisted:
“This show is tough love, it is. Because I tell you what, these contestants, they’re on Twitter, they’re being written about in the papers, it’s really hard. If this is what he’s like at this point I would worry.”
Louis was adamant though and said:
“I think he’s worth it. I would take a chance on him.”
