It’s been reported today that X Factor wannabe Melissa Armstrong, who is Cheryl Cole’s niece, is “devastated” that the show’s producers didn’t air her audition.

Earlier in the year, when Melissa originally auditioned, we reported that she’d been upset that all the judges wanted to do was ask her about her famous aunt, and Melissa said that they weren’t interested in her singing.

And given that the show’s editors didn’t include her audition – even on Xtra Factor – it would appear she was quite right; they weren’t interested!

Last weekend, when Melissa’s audition still hadn’t aired, she told The Sun, “I have no idea what’s going but it doesn’t look like I am going to appear…”

After singing Cheryl’s hit Promise This at her audition, despite getting a ‘yes’ from Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa and Gary Barlow weren’t impressed and therefore, Melissa didn’t get the four yeses she needed to make it to Boot Camp.

But of the fact that Melissa’s audition didn’t air, a family friend told the paper, “Everybody is angry that Melissa’s audition has been scrapped. We can’t believe it.

“She gave a really good performance and believed she would be featured in the audition shows…

“But after it was announced Cheryl was making her surprise comeback, it all went quiet, I wonder why that is?

“If anything, Melissa is a better singer than Cheryl. It’s so unfair.”

However, Cheryl may well to be too busy with her new beau, dancer Tre Holloway, to be overly bothered about her niece’s upset, and in fact, it’s been reported today that Cheryl’s going to introduce Tre to her ex-husband, Ashley Cole!

A source said to be close to Cheryl told the Daily Star, “Cheryl thinks it might be a good idea for the pair of them to meet at some point…

“Maybe at the end of the year when things are a bit calmer work-wise.

“Cheryl is still in regular touch with Ashley. Tre hasn’t kicked up a massive fuss about it but it’s hard for any man if their girlfriend is in touch with her ex.

“She also doesn’t want it to become an issue at a later point, especially since she has his surname and has no intention of changing it either…

“Tre wants to meet Ashley, he’s intrigued by the man Cheryl was married to and remains in touch with.

“They still exchange texts and it’s clear Ashley still has the ability to make her laugh.

“He sends her messages that make her chuckle and when she had the car crash [with will.i.am], he got in touch to make sure she was OK.

“Tre also finds it tough that Cheryl has no intention of changing her surname, even though it’s Ashley’s.”

Well she may not be eager to change her surname, but earlier this year, she did try to do a Prince – who of course changed his name to some kind of wacky symbol – and become just ‘Cheryl’ sans the Cole appendage.

However, it simply didn’t catch on and seems to have been filed away under Unworkable Ideas.

And anyway, if things go well with Tre, Cheryl might become Cheryl Holloway eventually. Ironic given her criminal history!
