X Factor 2012: Christopher Maloney lost belief in himself after children’s roadshow (VIDEO)

Christopher Maloney has admitted that he lost faith in himself and his singing in recent years and found it incredibly hard to audition for the X Factor recently.

The 34 customer services advisor from Liverpool was featured on Saturday night’s episode of the ITV show and was visibly shaking when he first took to the stage to sing for the judges in London.

The nervous performer delivered a pretty emotional rendition of Bette Midler’s ‘The Rose’ and afterwards Gary Barlow asked:

“How the hell have you kept that voice hidden till now?”

Tulisa added:

“Do you not believe in yourself? Can you not hear yourself when you sing?”

Chris appeared on This Morning today and told Phil and Holly why he was feeling so fearful on stage. He admitted that he has made attempts at a singing career before, but they never worked out. He explained:

“It’s the whole process, I’ve got one chance of doing this and I want it so much.

I’ve done singing when I was younger and stuff I did a children’s roadshow and stuff and nothing really worked out. I just lost belief in myself and people were saying get a proper job, it’s not going to work out, you’re going to embarrass yourself.”

However, thankfully Maloney has always had his sweet little Nan in his corner and on Saturday night’s show, she was seen supporting him in the wings and then joining him on stage as he listened to the judges’ comments.

Chris said that she has pushed him towards the TV show along along and added:

My nan kept saying ‘just go for it, believe in yourself.’

It took me five years to fill in the application form. This year my nan told me to go for it and I did and it was so nerve wracking to be on that stage, because I really wanted to do well.

For my nan to experience that was amazing, she’s never lost faith in me. This competition has given her a sparkle back and that’s why I’m loving it.

Chris won himself a place in bootcamp but it’s not yet known if he made it as far as judges houses, or the live shows.
