X Factor 2012: Dermot O’Leary explains ‘difficult’ results show and Louis Walsh’s c*ck up!

Dermot O’Leary has explained just what happened on last night’s X Factor results show.

The veteran presenter has fronted the show for many a year but yesterday had to be one of his most stressful days at work ever and at one point, we were sure he was going to rip Louis Walsh’s head off.

He was presiding over the judges’ final decision as they picked between the bottom two contestants – Rylan Clark and Carolynne Poole – who had just performed in the sing off.

However it all went wrong when the deciding vote fell to the Irish star.

Louis looked panicked and first claimed that he wanted to ‘save Carolynne’ but as Dermot asked him the question ‘Louis who are you sending home’ again and again, the former Westlife boss appeared to change his mind and instead opted to bring Clark to next week’s show.

Within minutes viewers were crying ‘fix’, a conspiracy theory not helped by pictures and video clips later released, which showed Louis in deep discussion with one of the X Factor bosses during Carolynne’s save me song.

Speaking on The Xtra Factor last night, Dermot said the confusion arose, because Louis first stated who he wanted to save, but he needed to hear who he wanted to send home.

O’Leary explained:

“It was very difficult for me because I have to get the words ‘who do you want to send home’ out of each judge. And Louis first of all …I think he said ‘I want to save Carolynne’ and then I said ‘who do you want to send home?’ and he said ‘I want to take it to deadlock.’”

So in the end, Dermot didn’t get the words ‘I want to send home’ out of Louis at all.

The show had to be drawn to a close at that point, as things were running over. Dermot added:

“It’s very difficult because as soon as he said ‘I want to take it to deadlock’ we went to deadlock.”

Of course the rest is history and as soon as the show went to deadlock, the result of the public vote was revealed and Carolynne was sent home.

She revealed today that she doesn’t hold Louis’ actions against him but many of you do. Thousands of fans have emailed Unreality TV today, or commented our posts, blasting Louis and his decision.

Davy wrote:

‘I wont be watching till carolynne is reinstated as louis first answer should have stayed sorry, i will be one of many changing channel.’

MK added:

‘What a joke? Just because some people want a bit of entertainment for another week or so (which has nothing to do with good singing and would never ever win the show) they voted Carolynne off who was actually in with a chance of winning.
X Factor should have made Louis stick with his first answer and not let him change his mind. That is out of order!!!!’

Eddie Ireland continued:

‘Louis Walsh is paid thousands of pounds to be a judge and when it came to making a decision his bottle went. Having the judges vote to save an act is a joke as the the pressure is put upon the last one to give their decision. I seem to remember Simon Cowell took the decision to deadlock when he was on the show. The fairest way would be if the judges did not announce their decision to the other judges but had buttons instead. We could then see how they voted at the same time. If that took it to deadlock then fair enough. If this had been in place last night then Louis would have voted for Caolynne and none of this furore would have happened.’

What do you think? Are fans overreacting or does ITV have some explaining to do? Leave your comments below…

You’re just afraid of losing your job, Dermot! You’re also a fake one!

  2. shell says:

I believe ITV do have some explaining to do and they need to give some answers

  3. sean b says:

I think its appalling, after saying he wanted to save carolynne then changing his mind, louis should be the one losing his job.The people who actually have talent should not be punished because of an incompetent judge(who hasn’t got a clue) eg…..Jedward need i say more!!! rylan should be applying for the only way is essex, and personally i think the x factor is his stepping stone to that anyway. This show is now an absolute joke and can’t be taken seriously, it’s not about finding a good singer at all as the whole country has seen firsthand.Simon, sort it out, how many people have to have their dreams crushed by louis sending through idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. shelby says:

Its a joke louis took so long deciding who to vote home because he didnt know whether to do what was right and vote rylan home or to do what the producers had just told him to do! X factor is rubbish dont know why they even let people like rylan in who cant sing and it was exactly the same with jedward x factor is just going downhill, im definatly never watching it again its all a fix none of the others have a chance its already been decided no point in watching it anymore its not a competition its a JOKE!!

  5. Gav Harrison says:

Flack and oleary can try and dress it up all they want the show is a farce and louis was told what to do plain and simple

  6. Sarah says:

Louis was completely right to take it to deadlock and let the public decide… After all that is often the case when you are the last judge to vote!
She would never had won cos she obviously hadn’t got the public’s backing! There are far better singers on there than her.
It is a TV programme voted for by the public not chosen by the judges! Everyone calm down and let TV provide some entertainment!!!

And as for a Gary who I usually think is fab, really shouldn’t have walked of! He cannot change the show!

  7. Mark says:

Well even my 8 year old son cried fix when dermott failed to accept Louis first decision to save caroline but seemed to clearly hear the words deadlock when Louis fumbled the words out under pressure from dermott! And the no doubt producer in dermotts earpiece!!! So once again I am boycotting this show after my previous jedwood boycott from the other year!
I really wish they would make a show about pure talent instead of it always being about the judges and novelty acts………grrrrrr I am so p.ssed off with this show!!

  8. Andrea says:

Lets face it, she was the weakest link, and the whole thing is a fake, we all know this, and the Gary walking off bit, was the biggest fake of all! Poor Louis, he did what he was told I reckon and picked Rylan, who is not living up to the usual novelty malarky, he is taking himself seriously, and its wrong of the judges to take the piss out of him. (not that I like him and would not have put him through, but still no need to take the piss out of him)

  9. Dave says:

Dermot O’Leary new full well what had been said by the bosses, hes just trying to explain to save his own NECK he should know as hes the only one with the ear-piece..

  10. Mandy says:

The public didn’t vote for Carolynn that’s why she went home! Louis isn’t the first judge to take it to deadlock and won’t be the last unless they make sure there are an odd number of judges. I feel sorry for Rylan, we all know that he isn’t the best singer and certainly wasn’t the best in the sing off. Equally Rylan didn’t give the worst performance on Saturday night either but it isn’t his fault that he’s where he is now and Carolynn has left the show.

Every year there is an amazing singer losing their place in the competition in favour of a novelty act or a c**p singer Frankie Cocozza, Jedward, Chico, the Conway Sisters the list is endless. If people wanted Carolynn to stay in then they should have voted for her there’s no point moaning about it now!

  11. mike90 says:

bring carolynne back after all that unfairness..so staged, because of this me and my friends will never watch x factor again, we all loved carolyne, everyone did our familie friends, friend friends love her.. coplete bulls**t, R.I.P X Factor

  12. Joel says:

This is easy. Simon Cowell was, is, and always will be the ONE JUDGE who decides, whether he is present or not. He is making the decisions behind closed doors, and don’t forget it.

  13. Lindsay says:

It is an absolute disgrace Louis Walsh is past it and needs to move on. When he struggles to make a decision like that I have lost all respect for him. The show was fixed and ITV have some explaining to do!

  14. Max says:

People threatening a boycott because they want it to all be about the voice, should go and watch the bloody voice, oh wait we all know how hard that bombed because when it is just about the the voice, ITS BORING!

  15. Sue says:

Remember it’s an entertainment show first and foremost and ratings are the most important thing. If it’s got people taking, then the jobs done.
If we are lucky, we might get a half decent singer at the end of it, but x-factor really isn’t a serious singing competition.

  16. Jane says:

This decision will make for a more entertaining show. Pity that Louis was the scapegoat…again.

  17. Ghee says:

I wish Gary, has poured hot tea on Louis head before he walk away! Ühh

  18. voice says:

It was a SING OFF there fore the one that hits the right notes and can sing stays ITS SIMPLE LOUIS
    big fix
