Ella Henderson has admitted that she almost missed her X factor audition, because she was studying for her GCSEs.

The 16 year old crooner wowed the ITV panel on Saturday night’s first episode of the 2012 series and after singing a self penned number for the judges, former Spice Girl Mel B gushed about her ‘clever’ song writing skills, adding:

“It made me go into my own little world, and go OMG, I felt like that at one point.”

The singer has her head screwed on it would seem and told bosses that she couldn’t attend the first audition date they offered her, because she didn’t want it to interfere with her exams.

“It was a struggle because the first time I got called to my big, live audition I couldn’t attend that one because I was doing an exam on the day so I was like ‘No, I need to do my GCSEs’.

Thankfully the young singer did return and sing for the judges and the rest, as they say, is history.

Moving forward, if Ella makes the live shows she intends to showcase more of her original music. She has been penning her own tracks since she was “12 or 13″ and wants to “keep going” writing and recording her own material.

She wants to be one of the most original contestants ever seen in the talent competition and added:

“I’m always songwriting at home on the piano, I’m excited to maybe do some covers along the way as well.”

“I’d never just cast that to one side, I want to bring something new to them and twist them round and make them sound different.”

Henderson has been receiving a lot of positive attention on Twitter, since she shot to fame at the weekend. She has made people cry and inspired many fans of the show and she thanked them today, taking to the micro blogging website and writing:

‘So grateful for all the support out there.. You are all true stars and I just want to say thank you again for the amazing response! #wow’

She continued:

‘Delayed Train journeys kill me… However the fans, followers and the support from you guys puts a huge smile on my face … Thank you!!’
