Gary Barlow has revealed that he has no guilt over failing to choose Christopher Maloney at X Factor judges’ houses.
The Take That star picked Melanie Masson, Carolynne Poole and Kye Sones as his final three contestants for the 2012 series and Chris was only thrown a lifeline later when the public voted him back in as a wildcard.
Melanie and Carolynne were eliminated in the first two weeks of the series and Kye didn’t last much longer and this weekend Chris will be the last remaining overs singer representing the category in the final.
Barlow insisted that he doesn’t feel bad for rejecting him at first and says it has turned out to be a good thing for the Liverpudlian.
He told Entertainmentwise:
“No [I don’t feel guilty], because he was a wildcard and at that point of the competition you want four contestants in your category and that’s what we got.”
He thinks the cloud turned out to have a silver lining and continued:
“I think for Christopher, unlike everybody else, because they don’t know the order of the votes each week everyone could think they are near the bottom, but Christopher knows the public is behind him because they already voted him through on the wildcard and then voted him through on the Sunday so he’s got a lot of support out there.”
Bookies revealed today that while they have slashed the odds of Chris winning the show at the weekend, they still see him as the rank outsider.
They have made Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur joint favourites and think it will turn out to be one of Nicole Scherzinger’s boys that wins the record deal with Simon Cowell
