X Factor 2012: Gary Barlow FURIOUS as Louis Walsh gets confused and saves Carolynne Poole….then Rylan Clark!
Gary Barlow has just stormed off the X Factor set!
It was all very dramatic and Louis Walsh messed things up massively as he was left with the deciding vote on the results show and asked to choose between Rylan Clark and Carolynne Poole.
The pair competed in the sing off, having polled the lowest number of votes for the week and predictably Nicole voted to save her boy, Gaz opted to save his girl and Tulisa threw her hat in the ring, saving Carolynne too.
Louis took forever to make up his mind and looked panicked as Gary, Nicole and Tulisa all told him who to pick, as Dermot urged him for a decision.
He seemed to choose Carolynne as the winning act at one point and definitely uttered the words ‘I save Carolynne’….she even jumped for joy. However as he mumbled and stuttered, he was asked to repeat his decision and then declared ‘I want to send it to deadlock.’
O’Leary then revealed that Poole had received the lowest number of votes and would be going home, to whcih Gary reacted by walking off the set.
Moments later on The Xtra Factor Carolynne told Caroline Flack:
“I’m gutted, I am really sad.”
She added:
“I knew it was a risk doing Starships and a lot of the guys have a lot of fans on Twitter and a lot of followers out there.”
When asked if she was shocked by Louis’ decision, she said:
“No, he never saves me.”
Gaz came back on stage at this point and blasted Walsh saying:
“It’s a joke, an absolute joke. I am so gutted. That was the most unbelievable performance you just did. Two years now and you’ve lost out to joke acts.”
He continued:
“I don’t get that. I said to him, why send it to deadlock, it’s ridiculous. There is no deadlock there at all.”
“We judge you on the last performance, how can you compare those performances.”
It was interesting to note that while Gary was berating and venting, Louis looked like he was being given quite a panicked telling off by Dermot down at the judges table.

What an absolute farce! Louis saved Carolyn; she jumped for joy, then Louis changed his mind. He should stick with his first choice & carolyn should be singing next week. However I do wonder who will buy her records despite her singing well
I agree a complete joke. They should either both go or both stay. Anyone voting for those two acts should have their money refunded. Louis the u turn should be replaced by someone with a sound mind.
I agree. That poor girls feelings. For a split second she was officially through to the next round and so incredibly happy because of it only for Louis to go back on his decision and for production to rush through the motions of wrapping up the show. I actually think she would do really well in America where the country market is much larger. If there’s one thing I agree with Louis on it’s that she is a bit like a British Shania Twain.
I think that it is a joke to send Carolynne home she was truely the better act and without all the drama we have seen from Rylan. He is a disgrace to real Diva’s and he should be sent home especially as we all heard Louis say he wanted to keep Carolynne. He should not be allowed to do that and if Rylan had any decency and Nicole he would step down and allow te true artist to go through I really believe Louis should be made to abstain from this vote as he clearrly has a problem with Carolynne ..he has forgotten what talent really is…I have been performing most of my life as a Country singer and we need some new talent give the poor girl another chance and deem this vote a void
I agree totally – a complete farce! Rylan should step down! Why do we go through most of the results programme of shite, for the judges comments, contestants comments, and the actual results to be rushed! It’s ridiculous. Simon sort it out – please x
I absolutely agree that in this case, both should be allowed to return followed by a double vote next week in order to catch up. I really don’t get this rule of judges being able to have the final say anyway! Out of the last two left each week, one will always have more votes than the other, so a judge is left being able to over votes that the public have paid for! Each week, they should send home the contestant with the least votes, simple as that. Otherwise the people who voted for the one with most votes have been cheated out of their moneyM
Its a joke Gary’s act was flawless and faultless she was outstanding rylan song was messed up he went well out of vocal on more than one occation how can louie struggle to make that decision bring back Simon
That was a joke tonight. It has happened before but that was a farce – even Ryland knew he was crap compared to Carolynne. Louis has to go. I will not watch X factor again as long as he is a judge.
I write to be counted as one of many that hopefully complain this evening at the farce labelled as a talent show.
Louis Walsh should be sacked.
He is not a judge when he names carolynne poole as an act to save, then retracts his statement to go to Dead Lock – especially when Rylan is below standard in comparison which was so obvious to these ‘professional’ judges. THEY ARE JUDGES – TO JUDGE. NOT A PANEL OF SUPPORTERS!
I sincerely hope ratings plummet and viewers boycott the show like i will until they replace Louis with someone who actually brings something to the show. His Westlife days are long gone and so are his claims to fame.

Did you see the production staff member talking to Walsh whilst Carollyn was singing? Was he being instructed to create controversy. I have officially complained to ITV and will not watch X factor again. It was fixed!

I wish I could simply believe that Louis is a bitter or deranged old man but the sad fact is that everything on the X Factor is orchestrated and the producers don’t give a damn about anything apart from their ratings.
If you look back over the years, in nearly every sing-off a man always talks to one of the judges (normally the one who gets the last vote too!)
Absolute joke completely fixed … I’ve watched X factor from the beginning and this is just a joke! It sure isn’t a singing competition. What’s the point of having judges if they don’t make the right decision ….. And also who was the bloke who came to Louis half way through Carolyn performance and whispered to him…. Louis should go
Total farce. Louis clearly said I am saving Carolynne, then crumbled to his Deadlock decision after being pushed by Dermot to confirm who it was he was sending home. Replay that VT there’s the proof. It’s as clear as day. Keep Carolynne in for another week. Two can be sent home next week if necessary.
Don’t know what Louis was thinking totally messed things up choosing carolynne then that rylan its a singing competition not entertainment carolynne was the best by far he was not a patch on her it was an embarasment for her to sing on there she is way to good for x factor Louis did it to her last year and now again this year its a travisty.

I say the same as Pythagorous. It was suspiciously like one of the production crew telling Louis to take it to deadlock for the ratings. In my opinion Louis has lost all credibility!

What happened ?
Louis twice said he wanted to keep Carolyn, she started to celibrate and then he said he wanted deadlock. He SHOULD BE SACKED – I have watched for many years, wont be anymore !!!
When he was asked who he would send home, he said “I want to save Carolynne”, but when pressed to rephrase it as “who he wants to send home”, he look flustered and took it to deadlock!
It was obvious to me that Louis forgot Rylan’s name!!!!
What an absolute joke. Louis had been doing the show for nine years an still can’t make a good decision. Caroline was thousand times better than the gay boy. Sack Louis and get someone else that can recognise a good singer. I will not be watching the X factor again. What a joke!!!!
What has relevance Rylan’s sexuality got?
I to have complained to ITV at the appalling display of what looked like ‘fixing’ of who should be sent home! The producers should take a long hard look at themselves – such obvious tampering with the guy speaking to Louis through Carolynn’s performance. I am boycotting the show until the producers find their moral compass!
SIMON if you have any morals you will reshuffle the pamel as Louis needs to go. He’s too old and is obviously suffering early signs of dementia. I still cannot believe that the plebs of this world who voted also voted for Rylan over Carolyn

What a joke, a complete fix. In all the previous shows Gary is the only one who ever had the courage to send home one of his own. Others think its a loyalty gig not a singing competition. When Louis said he was keeping Carolynne then that should have been how the result ended. Instead we got Rylan the drama queen crying like a baby again what a farce !!! No wonder Gary walked off it’s a disgrace

I think you guys are giving Louis a hard time.
I always get confused myself about who has how many votes to go/save etc and I’m not under that pressure situation.
I think Louis wanted to save Carolyne and thought that voting for Caroylne would put it to deadlock so he said put it to deadlock.
But actually when you stop and think about it, the others had voted to SEND Rylan home not SAVE, hence the confusion. Louis thought Rylan had more votes, he did, but they were votes to evict not save.
What’s hard to understand Max? Each judge has 1 vote and has to determine who, out of the two performers, they thought best.
It’s not exactly rocket science is it? Now, I’m not going to scream “fix” because a member of the production team spoke to Louis, we don’t know what was said and, to be frank, if they were fixing it I’m sure they could find more subtle ways of doing it.
But I do sincerely believe that once Louis made his decision (“I want to save Carolynne”) then that should have been the end of it. Ignoring the respective talents of the performers, this was a fiasco. The judges have their seats based on their abilities in the music business. Louis has produced successful bands (as he keeps reminding us) so he should be able to make a decision like this without all the pseudo-anxiety.
Why do they bother with asking the judges to vote at all? – at the end of the day the public have paid for their vote and it should just be the lowest voted contestant who should be sent home – no problems then

I do think X factor needs to allow more time for the judges to decide so dermot doesn’t have to feel rushed. Or even better not have a sing off in the first place and just let the public decide who they want especially as it is their money spent on phone calls. I feel sorry for the contestants as the judges make it more about themselves

I think people are forgetting that she actually got the fewest public votes therefore should have went!
They should take away deadlock and make sure there is always an odd number of votes cast from the judging panel. I hope the article I read earlier about having a 5th guest judge is true then this won’t happen again. Louis was wrong to change his mind but he did say he wanted to save Carolynn then follow that by and i want to save Rylan. I have to say though even if Carolynn got through I still think she would have been in the bottom two every week until she left the competition. She’s a brilliant singer but in the competition there’s nothing for the public to latch onto to make them want to support her over the other amazing singers. Lucy writes her own songs, Ella is very young, Jade and Melanie are missing their kids. There was nothing like that ever said to gain support for Carolynn and sadly she’s just been sacrificed to make headlines for X Factor once again. If people on here are right then maybe Louis acted like he did because he felt awkward about forcing it to deadlock but had been told he had to. Lets not kid ourselves Louis hasn’t been on X Factor year after year because he’s an amazing judge and mentor he’s there because he does as he’s told!

Carolynne can sing and sing in tune, there was absolutely no doubt who should have gone through tonight vocally she was faultless – ok I’m not saying she’d win or appeals to the majority but she was far better than Rylan. Its irrelevant that it went to the public vote because as proven before the public are at times thick as cack.If she was saved on that then next week she wouldn’t be at the bottom because people would see how talented she is but the same was with ruth lorenzo and her rendition of purple rain she was amazing but was eventualy pushed out. What is the point of having an overs category if it is only think kids voting it should have kept the name pop idol as there is no point of x factor. Louis loves the young boys so it doesn’t matter who is talented he just fancies young men that’s he’s agenda.But a stewards is needed cos louise saved the women then was able to change his mind thanks to the thick dick Dermot. So everyone noticed someone speaking to Louie while Carolyn was singing but who saw Tulisa passing something to Louie while he was trying to make his decision, and after that Tulisa looked quite uncomfortable, guilty perhaps. Well you got to remember X Crapter is a money making machine 1st and you should be under no illusion that its authentic and real, its manufactured entertainment at its best. Just laugh as its fascicle to say the least. Dodgy entertainment but very funny reading all the comments, people really have passion eh! trust me by tomorrow you will have calmed down and you will be watching it again…. its addictive right!

Dear ITV,
Firstly I want to start off by saying I am absolutely appalled at tonight’s X Factor Result Show.
Lets recap.
When it was time for “voting” it was predictable that Nicole would save Rylan and Gary would save Carolynn.
By watching, it was 100% clear that Carolynn out sung Rylan. Even Rylan knew.
Tulisa was true in what she was saying and that based on the performance she just seen Rylan would be sent home. 2-1 Rylan.
Then it came to Louis Walsh’s decision. Louis struggled, looked baffled and confused, the audience were chanting for Rylan to be sent home. Tulisa then pointed to a piece of paper on the desk and said “Its easy, pick this person or THAT person” as if she was helping him out on his decision. Also did Louis forget what was told to him as on screen you could clearly see “a man” talking to Louis Walsh during Carolynn’s performance. What was said?
Louis said “I SAVE CAROLYNN” we all heard it, it can’t be denied. Carolynn looked happy and jumped for joy, Rylan looked gutted. Then Dermot asked him to clarify his answer and he said “I want to take it to DEADLOCK!” Gary Barlow looked disgusted and it was clear too see.
So WHY was Louis allowed to changed his decision? Dermot should have repeated “You SAVE Carolynn?” and sent Rylan home.
It’s a total disgusting joke and its making a mockery out of loyal viewers like myself and people who do pick up the phone and vote. I truly hope there is a FULL investigation into this catastrophic shambolic disgrace? Louis Walsh does NOT deserve to be a Judge on the show and to be honest Nicole should have NEVER put Rylan through to Live Shows.
It seems to me that this was one massive ploy for ratings and headlines and at the expense of “normal” individuals lives and careers, Rylan has been given false hope that will destroy him and is being used as a joke for viewers and is clearly never going to win, poor Carolynn’s dreams have been shattered also at the expensive of ITV begging for ratings and headlines.
Its plain and simple, FIRE Louis Walsh and eject Rylan from the show and standby Louis 1st decision and bring Carolynn back.

A brilliant letter of complaint JDR. I’ve just watched it on catch-up. That show is a disgrace to music, tv, phone bills and weekend nights! As long as there is controversy & gossip people will continue to watch it like mugs and vote.

Carolynne was brilliant, it is a complete and utter joke – Louis clearly saved her…..twice and then changed his mind. The whole thing is a fix and I will not be watching XFactor anymore. Get rid of Louis – BRING BACK CARLOYNNE
I am angry because I feel this has completely spoiled the show for me, although some of the finalists are worthy of watching. Its not just Louis ‘doing what he is told’ it seems to me Nicole chose Rylan because she thought he would be popular when Adam was so much better. She continues to carry on this farce too. I actually feel a bit sorry for Rylan because he is getting attacked when all he did was enter the show, he cant help the fix that is happening. Gary should either leave next year if Louis is still on the panel as it is costing him the respect we had for him. Gary and Tulisa are the only ones I trust to actually say what they mean and I hope people will stop spending their money voting now -
I do not blame Louis I honestly believe he was told to take it to deadlock after he had voted for Carolynne to stay. If I was being paid the amount he is I would do as I was told, I think he looked embarrassed. Rylan should have gone, he is not a nasty person but I’m afraid he cannot sing if I was Gary I would have walked off too. I agree with lots of viewers its not X Factor its Fix Factor. Tonight’s show was a total farce and like many others I doubt I shall continue to watch. Louis Walsh is an indecisive idiot, incapable of being a judge. Tonight’s outcome needs to be overturned. Walsh had already said that he would save Gary’s act and that decision should have stood. Dermot also messed things up by giving Walsh the opportunity to change his mind. If the show is to have any credibility, Walsh should go.
Why is anyone surprised when this show is fixed every year?
Obviously Carolynne was better than the Gay guy who was more camp than Maplins (hi-de-hi). She should be immediately reinstated.
It looks to me that Louis was torn between his credibility and his instructions – lookd like credibility lost!!!!
I wish I could ask Louie what the guy was saying to him while Carolynne was singing. I would be willing to bet that he got information regarding who had the least votes, to take it to deadlock all on the instructions of Simon Cowell. Just to create controversy to keep X Factor in the public limelight. If Louie denies this, I would call him a liar and would love him to take a Lie detector. Louie has always said that it is a singing competition and he caused the better singer to be sent home. Dermot said he needed to hear the words who he was going to save not keep, “Save” being the word required, but the Louie then said take it to Deadlock, he did not say “Save” Rylan, so Dermot was totally wrong. I am affraid as with the year that terrible duo Jedward were on the program (Louie’s pick) I will not watch this program until Rylan has gone, and with a bit of luck taken Louie with him. Dermot, Louie and Rylan are at best PATHETIC.

Make sure everyone complains- how can 90% of the public see that Rylan should of went but Louis put it to dead-lock. Louis is the worst judge ever, crying about it being hard to make a decision, he obviously is not able to make a judgement therefore he can’t do his job and should be sacked.

A few series ago the judges use to judge the acts, now they support the acts, funny when you can now download their performances for 99p on iTunes all of a sudden they praise the act, so us people download the performances, more view on YouTube, iTunes etc makes more revenue for the show!!! Smells fishy
Louis has always been a fan of the novelty act or the Irish anyway but the fact remains the public didn’t vote for Carolynn who was much better on the night than all of Louis’ groups.
What a farce X factor was last night! Gary is brilliant – not surprised he walked off!

Absolute shambles. I won’t watch this show again unless the great singer is reinstated and the talentless wannabe is ejected. His first perfomance was NOT entertaining and his save me song was mostly out of tune. The song itself is very simple to sing, 3 bars in a low register. Every time he came to the higher note he pulled the mike away from his mouth so we couldn’t hear what was coming out. How can this be called in any way entertaining???. The show is a singing competition and he can’t sing. ITV should be ashamed. Disgraceful. Rylan should do the right thing and step down. He then may have more of a chance of forging a career with zero talent especially as his friend and mentor Katie Price has done exactly that…

They want controversy – it fuels the show – but its playing with other peoples life’s – and its an offence to those with talent – Ryan cannot sing and its painful to listen to him – plain and simple – if this was The Voice he would be dead and buried – but they want to turn into a soap opera
Dear Mr. Barlow. I hope you will now realize that eventhough many branded you boring and Simon branded you too script and stiff. But, you’re the most qualified judge in the panel. I’m sorry to tell you this… You’re rich enough, and you don’t need this 2 million from Simon. It makes you looks just stupid, how Simon and Louis trying to make you down. You are so talented, gorgeous look, down to earth person and have a wonderful family than this 2 idiots (Simon & Louis) could never have bcoz they’re both egoistic and crap . Please, walk away from this Crap Show. People, understand if you will do this, and you’re Acts too! You can still manage and support them behind the Screen.

I was not really a fan of Carolynne Poole, but she definitely sang better than she has so far and deserved the second chance. Louis has no integrity. And, I have to say, Gary Barlow is looking somewhat castrated after that fiasco. Last nights show makes him look like an idiot as well. I suppose everyone is getting paid handsomely, and the ratings are high so the show will go on, so what the hell. But that’s it for me personally. I shall be watching or doing something more entertaining next week.
Well I’ve complained to OFCOM…. If I complain to ITV it will probably get ‘misplaced’. Must admit that i’m a big fan of Ella but I won’t watch the show anymore and I know that YouTube will keep me up to date with her progress. I am a little worried that the show may do Ella more harm than good… she’s had the recognition now, so if I where her father I’d pull her from the show and wait for the offers to come rolling in from elsewhere as there’s sure to be plenty.
I totally understand why everyone is so angry that Carolynne left as she was an amazing singer and performer. However, Rylan has been given a really tough time and he has an outstanding personality. I think that he has been judged far too quickly and the show provides everyone with a chance.
You need to remember that it was down to the public vote and if you were all so mad about Carolynne leaving then maybe a few more of you should’ve picked up your phones to vote to get out Rylan.
I think his performance wasn’t the best but he is there to improve and become a decent, if not, good singer.
I think it’s very cruel to judge someone that you barely know and to especially judge Louis, it must be so hard to break hearts every sunday night, cut him some slack, idiots.
I absolutely agree that in this case, both should be allowed to return followed by a double vote next week in order to catch up. I really don’t get this rule of judges being able to have the final say anyway! Out of the last two left each week, one will always have more votes than the other, so a judge is left being able to over votes that the public have paid for! Each week, they should send home the contestant with the least votes, simple as that. Otherwise the people who voted for the one with most votes have been cheated out of their money.
X Factor hasn’t been a talent show for some time, if ever. It is an ENTERTAINMENT programme and it seems to me that, although the entertainment came in the form of anger and frustration on Sunday, it attracted more media attention than if the deadlock situation hadn’t happened. People will still tune in, still throw their hard-earned dosh away, voting. Yes, it’s fixed. Quelle surpris!
People are asking, what’s the point having judges of they don’t make the right decision! To that I would answer that I thought it was we the public who chose (and WE PAY for the privilege! What’s the point in paying to vote if one judge can over rule all our public paid for votes! The one with the least public votes should be out by default EVERY TIME!
