X Factor 2012: Gary Barlow gushes over Asda worker Jahmene Douglas’ ‘At Last’ audition!
Jahmene Douglas is one of two major stand out acts that will be featured on tonight’s X factor launch show.
The ITV series returns to our screens this evening and the young Asda worker at first seems like one of those joke acts, who everyone is going to feel really bad about laughing at later on.
He was so nervous before taking to the stage that we were sure he’d have no talent and his own comments didn’t do much to inspire confidence.
The Swindon lad said:
‘People that know me, know I’m a worrier.’
‘I’m a stay at home kind of guy, I’m so nervous I might pee myself!’
However, the insecurities all seemed to slip away as Jahmene started to belt out Etta James ‘At Last’. Katie Waissel may have done the song justice in 2010 but this was in another league!
His high voice had a distinct gospel overtone and literally gave us goosebumps down our arms. Nicole Scherzinger felt the same and even made Gary Barlow touch hers for proof.
After the audition Louis Walsh raved:
‘Jahmene Douglas you are a revelation! You definitely have the X Factor….a star is born!’
‘You have it…not just the X Factor but the shock factor too. It was blinking amazing.’
‘We need more singers like you. Real singers. I want to eat you right up honey!
Gary Barlow is usually the most measured judge of the panel but he knows talent when he sees it. The Take That star continued:
‘I have never seen a vocal performance like that before. You nailed it. That is how to do an audition.’
Tune into the X factor tonight to see Jahmene Douglas’s full audition and to find out whether or not he makes bootcamp.
In the meantime, listen to him sing and tell us, do you think he’s good enough for bootcamp? Leave your comments below…
