X Factor 2012: Jahmene Douglas ‘I am just trying to keep the wall up’ (VIDEO)
Jahmene Douglas has admitted that he sometimes struggles to stay composed on The X Factor.
The 21 year old singer was in tears last night, as the judges raved about his performance of ‘Say A Little Prayer’, all acknowledging that he has had a tough week personally.
The former shelf stacker has had his private life splashed all over the newspapers, with people reading all about his late brother, his abusive father and his troubled childhood and it seems that all the attention is taking it’s toll.
Speaking on The Xtra Factor last night, a fan asked Douglas what was the hardest thing about appearing on the ITV show. He confessed:
“I think the hardest thing is trying to stay true to yourself and trying to keep that strength, because you can’t always keep the strength up.”
He added:
“When you’re at work you can pretend to be yourself but in front of millions of people it’s harder to keep that wall up. So I am just trying to keep the wall up.”
Jahmene is currently one of the bookies’ favourites to win the current series of the competition, behind only the gorgeous Ella Henderson.
Whether he wins or not though, he seems set for a brilliant career as rarely before have we seen the public rally behind a reality TV contestant so enthusiastically.
