X Factor 2012: Jahmene Douglas ‘I don’t want to burden people with what I’ve been dealing with’

Jahmene Douglas has proven himself to be quite the inspiration on this year’s X Factor series.

The 21 year old singer not only has an amazing talent, but a strong moral fibre too and has so far avoided trading on his difficult childhood as a means of winning votes.

The former shelf stacker has been forced to open up slightly about his troubled past, his abusive dad, his late brother, as a result of the tabloid press uncovering many details of his private life. However, he has avoided being salacious and in an interview with The Sun today, revealed that his passion for music is driven by the fact that his singing provided a sanctuary to him during the hardest tiems of his life.

Jahmene confessed: “Music is my sanctuary. It was the only place I had to go in that time where I felt safe.

“A lot of people would choose to rebel but I’ve chosen to focus on singing. It’s the higher love thing. I know it sounds cheesy.”

Douglas has previously revealed that not only is he single, but he has never had a girlfriend before and has never even been kissed.

He’s quite religious and doesn’t approve of women dressing suggestively but on top of that, he admitted to the newspaper that he doesn’t want to settle down with somebody, until he gets his own issues ironed out.

He said:

“I’d love to get married and have children. I know it’s difficult for me because I’ve got a lot of stuff going on in my head.”

He continued: “I don’t want to burden people with what I’ve been dealing with so that’s the reason I’ve been single for so long.

“But I’m stronger than people think. I want to spread positivity. I want to tell people, ‘You can hold on to your happiness. It doesn’t have to be stolen from you.’”

Tonight the singer songwriter and his fellow hopefuls will be performing for the third time this series and taking on songs that fit with a club classics theme. Check out our teaser song list here!

He brings a certain class to the whole competition.
I stopped watching the whole thing after the auditions, but I wish him all the best.

I kinda hope he doesn’t win, so he’s picked up by a respectable label & his talent strengthened & marketed in the right way.

    That is all.

  2. woody says:

Oh jahmene…you are a truly lovely individual. I am someone that has had a hard life not as struggling as yours … I too am a private person… I just want to let you know that you are such a strong person. I, like yourself try and hide things behind a smile for the same reason not to be a burden on people. When I heard your story it brought tears to my eyes. You will succeed in life. I can tell. Keep shining like always. Bless you.

  7. Lisa Burton says:

Precious Jahmene, what a smashing person you are and I absolutely adore you. As Nic’ said: “You are on that stage for a reason”…agree, and that reason is because with a voice like yours you cannot be allowed to walk through life un=noticed. Don’t ever feel ashamed by the past for it was not of your doing, heal those bad memories by singing so great and win – and even if you don’t there will be major offers ahead for you. Sing it out, and let it OUT x

We can all continue to give you the fantastic praise you deserve, but you now need to listen and believe it. No one knows the extent of how your horrific past has affected you, but this is now your time, your time to enjoy and embrace your own raw talent. You really are a special person who deserves the best. On your very first performance I wanted you to win this competition, but even if you don’t you have won the hearts of the nation because of you, that is priceless and no one can take that away from you. Best wishes for your fantastic future because the only way is up take care Janice xxx
