X Factor 2012: Jahmene Douglas’ tragic past includes the death of his brother & jailed violent rapist dad

It’s been revealed today that X Factor finalist Jahmene Douglas has a tragic past that’s littered with incidents that may have brought lesser men to their knees…

That litany of upset includes the death of his beloved brother and the fact that his father is a convicted rapist who physically attacked his mum; an attack that could have killed her.

However, having met him, I can tell you that Jahmene is living proof that sometimes, apples DO fall very far from their trees, because he’s not only a young man with a very strong moral compass, he’s also totally unassuming, humble and a gentle gentleman.

And the smile and nervous giggle we see on-screen is ever-present in real life too, which, given how much he’s coped with in his life, is remarkable in and of itself…

The report about Jahmene’s violent father Eustace appeared in The Sun this morning, with the article revealing that Eustace was sentenced to nine years in jail in 2003 for GBH against Jahmene’s mum, Mandy.

At the time of his arrest, Eustace reportedly also confessed to rape, for which he was given a further six year sentence which was to be served concurrent to his nine years for battering Mandy.

Jahmene was just 11 years old when his dad viciously attacked his mum at the family’s home.

A friend of Jahmene’s told the paper, “His dad was a nasty piece of work and terrorised the family.

“It’s no wonder Jahmene is shy and has had confidence issues.”

The paper adds, “Jahmene also had to deal with the death aged just 23 of his brother Daniel in 2008. He has two other brothers, aged 15 and 19, and a sister of 20.”

Debvout Jahmene told the paper, “Our struggles are what make us stronger and I hope I can become an inspiration to those still suffering.

“I’m still here and happy. Don’t let anyone take your happiness.

“Only you know what’s best for you and your family but speak out and reach out.”

Well if anyone’s looking for an inspirational role model, they need look no further than Jahmene.

Meanwhile, see where we ranked Jahmene and his fellow contestants in our X Factor week 2 chart here.

A world class vocalist, with or without being the ultimate winner of the X Factor.

Can’t wait for the first album!!!

Ray Charles came from a background of childhood tragedy and look how far the man the music industry called “The Genius” went. Jahmene reminds me a little of Ray Charles vocally and I predict great things for him.

Well done Jahmene. All the very best xxx
