UPDATE: LUCY WAS NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO PERFORM AN ORIGINAL SONG ON THE X FACTOR. HOW COULD WE FORGET ABOUT CHICO TIME?

Lucy Spraggan was one of the contestants we were most worried about watching on tonight’s first X Factor live show.

We think she is one of the most talented people to grace the stage of the ITV show in many a year and we have LOVED her self penned compositions such as Tea and Toast and Last Night, that she has showcased in previous rounds.

However, as good as she is at performing her own material, Lucy has definitely struggled when singing covers and while her version of ‘I Will Always Love You’ at judges houses wasn’t anywhere near as bad as her rendition of ‘Moves Like Jagger’ at bootcamp, we think most people would agree that it didn’t show her in her best light either.

Thankfully, before she even performed, Tulisa revealed that for the first time ever in X Factor history, Lucy would be singing her own song for the public. Phew!

The track was called ‘Mountains’ and we loved that Spraggan looked a little more glam but still very much herself. She hadn’t been X Factored or polished too much and because she was singing her own lyrics and her own tune, she definitely seemed more real.

It was a slow song, and we definitely preferred the start to the end, but all in all, we really enjoyed Lucy’s performance tonight.

LOUIS: All your hundreds of all gigs have paid off. You remind me of Victoria Wood, Kate Nash. I hope it wasn’t a gamble.

NICOLE: Lucy you are such a brilliant storyteller. You are just brilliant in your own spunky honest and witty way.

GARY: Lucy you truly are a unique artist, you a great singer, musician and songwriter.

TULISA: You wrote that song yourself and it stood up against all the covers. You are best when you are doing you and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
