On last night’s X Factor auditions show, we saw Melanie McCabe making a triumphant comeback to the show…

Fans will recall that last year, Melanie made it to the Judges’ Houses round, where she was mentored by the now former judge Kelly Rowland. However, Kelly controversially axed Melanie – and Jade Richards – so she didn’t make it to the live shows.

But as Melanie explained last night, she hopes that a year on, her vocal abilities have improved to the extent that this time, she’ll make it right to the end.

We heard her say, “I was so excited last year getting to Miami, I’m from a little town where it’s kind of like just unheard of you know?

“When I was told that I was going home, I was devastated…

“I couldn’t even talk to anyone, I came home and my mum just cuddled me and she told me it was going to be ok and I still can’t watch that Judges Houses episode.

“It just brings back so many memories.”

After she performed a stunning rendition of classic hit Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel, Melanie was immediately put through to Boot Camp, with Gary Barlow telling her, “Melanie I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to see you back here this year.

“And giving a performance like that; it was extraordinary, well done.”

In an interview with the Daily Star Sunday today, Melanie said, “I think Kelly made a mistake by not putting me through. I felt I had a lot more to prove.

“I didn’t get a big enough chance. I don’t hear from her any more.

“It’s really good Nicole Scherzinger is on the panel now because she’s so talented and she gives everyone good advice.”

She added, “I’ve practised a lot since last time. I’m more confident now.

“There were loads of people saying I should take the hint and not audition again.

“I shrugged them off because it’s my dream.”

Well thank goodness she did! She was amazing wasn’t she?
