X Factor 2012: Olly Murs will miss auditions due to One Direction tour

When Olly Murs revealed yesterday that he would be supporting One Direction on their upcoming US tour, our first thought was whether or not he would be back to work on The Xtra Factor this year.

After he plays on Soccer Aid at the end of May, Murs will jet off to the states, where he will perform at 19 of the planned 1D American and Canadian concerts.

They clash with the UK wide X Factor judges auditions, which as Xtra Factor presenters he and Caroline Flack would normally be required to attend.

However, insiders say that show bosses are allowing Olly to miss the tryouts and return to present the live shows when his tour is completed.

It is thought that while he is absent, Caroline will present on her own, being joined by Murs for judges houses later in the summer and then the live rounds in the autumn.

A source told The Sun:

“X Factor bosses loved Olly on last year’s show and really wanted him to do it. Once the One Direction tour was confirmed we decided to offer him just the live shows instead.”

Olly recently admitted that he had asked Simon Cowell if missing the auditions would be possible, but implied that the music mogul had turned down his request. We wonder what changed?

Are you glad Olly is returning? Do you think he will be a good support act for 1D? Leave your comments below….
