X Factor 2012: Paramedics treated James Arthur for a panic attack last night after he sang live to 10.2 million viewers!

As we reported last night, X Factor finalist James Arthur was taken ill just minutes after wowing with his rendition of Mary J Blige’s hit track, No More Drama…

Fans took to Twitter in their droves when it was revealed on spin-off show Xtra Factor that James had been taken ill, to wish him well and to ask what was wrong.

This morning, ITV have issued a statement about the drama surrounding what happened, revealing that poor James suffered a panic attack, the symptoms of which can be frighteningly similar to a heart attack.

The statement reads, “Last night James Arthur had a panic attack after his performance and an ambulance was called as a precaution.

“He wasn’t taken to hospital as paramedics didn’t think it was necessary. He went back to the hotel last night, had a good night’s sleep and is in good spirits this morning…

“He will take it easy today and our doctor will continue to keep an eye on him today.
Contestants welfare is our key priority.”

An X Factor spokesperson added, “James Arthur became unwell after his performance on the show last night.

“An ambulance was called as a precaution but he was not taken to hospital and he will appear on tonight’s show.

“The welfare of contestants is our key priority and we work with them to provide any support that is needed.”

And James added, “I had an anxiety attack last night, maybe because I gave everything I had to my performance.

“I feel loads better this morning after a good night’s sleep and I’m looking forward to tonight’s show – there’s no way I am missing it.”

Aww so glad to hear James is ok and feeling better today, and there’s yet more good news as it’s been revealed that last night, 10.2 million of us tuned in to watch X Factor, which is recorded as being a 41% share of the total UK viewing audience in the relevant timeslot.

ITV adds, “With an average audience of 6.9m between 7pm and 10.30pm, ITV1 was the most watched channel in primetime last night.”
