X Factor 2012: Pink impersonator Zoe Alexander kicks off in the biggest way! (VIDEO)
Zoe Alexander will not be feeling so good about herself or her X Factor portrayal after watching herself on tonight’s episode we’d bet.
The 22 year old singer from South Wales turned up to try out for the ITV show, dressed as Pink and singing a pink song. However, she said she wanted people to see her own talent and wanted to make a splash in her own right so the whole message was very confusing.
She comes from a family of lookalikes, with her father impersonating Tom Jones for a living and her mum taking on the image of Shania Twain. But it seems the judges had experienced enough lookalikes during their audition tour.
Before singing the Welsh hopeful told the panel:
“I’m hoping to get a bit of an identity, my own identity.’
She then launched into a decent rendition of ‘So What’ by Pink. Tulisa seemed a little unsure and told Zoe:
“I actually quite liked your image when you came out, and then when you told me about Pink, I realised okay you based it on Pink.”
“No I didn’t base it in Pink. I’m trying to get away from the Pink thing.”
Our first thought was she could have tried a lot harder!
The judges then allowed her to sing a second song, after which she crooned to Emeli Sande’s ‘Next To Me.’
Nicole tried to be constructive with her comments and told Alexander that she liked her ‘energy,’ enjoyed her ‘pretty good’ singing but continued:
“I honestly think that you need to go away and find yourself as an artist, who you are.”
Gary Barlow said:
“Zoe, I am definitely confused with the identity issue, you came out saying you wanted an identity and then you sing Pink, I thought that the second song was much better, but I do think you need to go away and really find your own lane and find what sounds right for your voice, because at the moment it just sounds like every other average sort of singing voice.”
Louis Walsh said::
” Zoe, it’s a pity because you’ve got a great look, you absolutely look like a pop-star, but the vocal was just very very average. But I think with time you could be fantastic but I think you need to go and find yourself and come back as Zoe.
Zoe wasn’t happy with the critique and told the panel that she had been told to sing a Pink song and directed to dress like the popstar. Tulisa denied her claims but the contestant ranted:
“I didn’t want to sing a Pink song, I wanted to be me, you guys told me to sing a Pink song.”
Things started to get very heated at this point and Zoe was almost in tears. The judges tried to defend their position, saying that they had allowed her a second song and still hadn’t been impressed with her singing. Louis was particularly harsh, hitting out:
“Zoe, it was your audition, and you messed up. I’m sorry.”
It was the last straw and at this point the Pink lookalike threw her mic, walked off the stage, pushed a camera man and began yelling obscenities at anyone in the vicinity. Poor Dermot looked so shocked, we thought his ears were going to bleed.
However, she came back, this time with her rather tough looking dad on her arm and as Nicole pleaded ‘No Baby No! No Baby No!’, the pair continued to shout and looked like they were going to move down to the judges’ table.
Finally, they left, pushing more staff and screaming at the crowds as they went. It was a shocking episode altogether!
Tulisa later admitted that she had been worried about Louis’ safety if things had gotten really out of hand and after the incident it was revealed that a producer had called police, who cautioned the 22 year old.
We understand that Zoe may have had issues about how the production team handled her audition and felt shortchanged and hard done by, but we think that even her nearest and dearest would agree that this was perhaps not the best way to deal with the problem.
