James Arthur has just released his debut single but he has admitted that he didn’t choose the track himself.
The 23 year old triumphed on the X Factor last night, when he won the final and landed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s SYCO. He beat his pal Jahmene Douglas to the main prize and at midnight his new single ‘Impossible’ was made available for download.
The track is already at number one in the iTunes charts and even though he didn’t pick the song, James said it was a tune he didn’t mind covering.
He told The Mirror:
“I didn’t chose the song but I really like it. It’s a contemporary song and it allows me to give my own version.”
Jahmene Douglas recorded a version of The Beatles’ classic ‘Let It Be’ as his winner’s track and Union J sang a Demi Lovato song. James is glad he got something a bit more obscure and said:
“If I had been given Jahmene’s Let It Be winner’s song there wouldn’t have been much scope for me to make it sound like I had written it.”
Arthur took a bad panic attack and had to be treated by medical staff during the first month of the series and he has since admitted that he considered dropping out of the competition at that point.
He’s revealed that there were a lot of times when he felt ‘uncomfortable’ with everything that was expected of him and with the changes that were occurring in his life but he’s getting his head round it now it seems.
He said: “I’m not going to lie, the first few weeks were a bit uncomfortable for me.
“It was hard dealing with The X Factor circus but now I just remind myself how lucky I am to be here. I now feel like I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in and finally have the confidence in myself to think I deserve success. You have to deal with all the aspects that come with a show like The X Factor.”
He added: “I’m never going to be a fame-whore or throw myself at the cameras. I will never see myself as a celebrity. I’m just a normal person who wants to do music and play guitar.
“This time last year I was nowhere. I’ve had to sleep rough. It’s hard to forget things like that.”
Arthur revealed this morning that his debut album will consist of all his own material – except maybe for his new single – and he is hoping to rush release it rather than waiting until this time next year.
He has also praised his pal Jahmene who finished in second place last night and insisted that he will achieve big things in his career, even though he didn’t win.
James released his winner’s single Impossible at midnight last night and already it’s at number one in the iTunes chart. He performed ‘Impossible’ on the show yesterday and you can see the video below.
