X Factor 2012 show 2 results: Who was voted off? Melanie Masson or District 3?

Another Sunday night, another singer devastated. It’s all par for the course over in the X Factor camp.

It’s been quite angsty here at Unreality TV headquarters this evening, as we’d already shed a little tear following the elimination of poor old Johnny Ball from Strictly Come Dancing and then we had to go through the heartbreak all over again when Dermot O’Leary revealed the bottom two on the ITV show this evening.

Bookies had predicted that Christopher Maloney would be the man to leave the series, after his performance of ‘Alone’ failed to win rave reviews from the judges last night, however their odds also suggested that Louis Walsh’s District 3 and MK1 and Gary Barlow’s Kye Sones were far from safe from the chop.

However, no one could have predicted that Melanie Masson would be in the bottom two. The mum of two delivered a fantastic rendition of INXS’s ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ last night, and won rave reviews from all the panel. She even closed the show, which is generally seen as the golden slot which leads to a big voting boost.

This evening Mel faced the singoff with boyband District 3 and it was the lads who took to the stage first, to sing their save me song. They had spoken previously about their worry of being judged as dated, however tonight chose Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do for what could be their last X Factor performance. It was a hit in the early 1990s, before most of these guys were born, so we wouldn’t say they helped themselves seem more current.

Their harmonies were quite sharp, though not as tight as last night’s and we have to admit, they definitely gave it their all….they looked desperate to make it through and 100% committed to the song. It wasn’t our favourite performance of theirs though.

Melanie was next to the stage, and for her save me song she picked Duffy’s ‘Stay With Me’.

It started off in a very low key manner but soon Masson built up to her trademark power notes. It was a wonderful, flawless and impressive performance and she could not have sang it any better. Our only concern was that the song wasn’t well known enough.

After the sing off Louis cast his vote first and he praised ‘amazing’ Melanie but of course opted to save his own act.

Tulisa was next up and she praised Mel’s ‘amazing voice’ and the boys’ ‘beautiful’ harmonies. She added:

“My heart is with the lads so the act I am sending home is Melanie.”

Gary of course backed his singer, although he praised both acts for their ‘brilliant’ efforts.

The deciding vote then lay with Nicole Scherzinger and she praised District 3 for their ‘amazing’ performance and for their progression throughout the series, she told Mel that going from the save me song, she wanted to save her…. effectively sending the show to deadlock.

Dermot revealed that the act receiving the fewest votes and therefore going home was Melanie.

The aftermath: Melanie’s mentor Gary Barlow says he’s ‘gutted’ she’s gone.

Did you agree with tonight’s result? Did everything go as you’d expected? Leave your comments below….

  1. Vera says:

I predict more outrage, and rightly so.

  2. Max says:

If you read my review. You can see she was one of the ones I wanted to go.

I didn’t think she’d be in the bottom 2 as I thought Scotland would have voted for her.

Oh it’s not going well for Gary is it :)

  3. Londoner says:

I think she had one of the best vocals in the competition. This means the show is absolutely fixed. She should have stayed and this talentless boyband should have gone home instead!

  4. Louise says:

    The fix factor strikes again.

I didn’t watch in protest from last week, everyone needs to stop watching and voting – why vote when it doesn’t count and only lines cowells pocket !!

Gary should walk out and leave – he doesn’t need to be on this show at all, not like the others do as that’s all they have !

The shows a joke and so is Louis, tulisa and Nicole.

  5. Derek says:

Agree that this show is not about singing as there are least 5 other acts that can’t.

  6. kattie says:

SHOCKED,,,,,How the eff did those boys get through, totally out of tune , I agree with Londoner ,,,Its a FIX ,,, gotta be ,,,,

  7. Max says:

Derek, it’s not about “just” the singing.

Singing is only one component of that special star quality known as THE X FACTOR.

If you want a show all about the voice, I suggest you go… watch the voice.

  8. kattie says:

    AGREE ,,,,,

  9. daniella says:

i love Ryan soo much he deserves to be on x factor go RYAN

  10. Ella says:

Melanie was a great singer but they got her image too wrong for the audience at home. Crying about the kids wore thin and last week the 70s look was just too dated with that white suit

A real shame, she had the voice the the potential with her looks to be a flamboyant, stunning star. But they made her look a bit tired and the teens at home couldn’t relate to her.

  11. daniella says:

I LOVE LOVE RYAN SOO MUCH HE DESERVES TO BE ON X FACTOR GO RYAN

  12. Louise says:

Yes but it’s supposed be be about talent and two people with talent have gone and two lots of talentless acts survived – so what does that say about the show !

Proper talent doesn’t count no more it’s all about camp acts or talentless boy bands. That’s why the charts and tv is full of rubbish talentless people.

  13. TorphInstoo says:

Er, Daniella if you loved RYAN so much, you’d realise his name is actually RYLAN!!!!

  14. marjory says:

what happened to Scotlands vote what a farce

  15. gonk says:

Absolute joke. This show is meant to be about the voice. Rylan would le great at a kids birthday party, but would you really want to listen to him on radio 1?

  16. Abe says:

What a pantomime , best singer goes out with the help of Tulisa – only competition against her girls.
X Factor is no longer a singing competition. It is a joke.

    • Lorenzo says:

The whole show has been a joke for many years and people know that no matter how crap they are if the bumbling idiot louis takes a liking to you it’s quids in e.g those annoying clowns jedward who should have been kicked out at the queueing stage. Wander around your local karaoke for a few weeks and you could rally up more talent than these so called experts take months to get and spend millions in the process.

    • Max says:

Would those clowns be the same clowns that have had 3 sell out tours, one of which being a continental tour of Europe and a small part of the middle east?

Would those be the same clowns that took their country into 8th spot on the worlds most watched non sporting tv show, ESC.

The same clowns that are the only X factor act ever, from any series of any nation to perform for the President of the United States

      • jjohnf says:

as if singing to the president of the usa is any big deal im irish and jedward are a national embarrassment you like jedward? nurse the screens!!!!

  17. Max says:

    gonk

Think you got the wrong show. The Voice is about the voice. The X factor is meant to be about that special star quality that can make someone a star.

Britney spears, has the X factor, she doesn’t have the voice, hasn’t harmed her career at all.

  18. Rose says:

Have the public all gone mad keeping Rylan in what a shambles

  19. wilf says:

this show is about singing why has that dead beat rylan still been voted in dont want to watch this rubbish again, simon wants to get a grip of louise hes not fit to be a judge

  20. Louise says:

That’s why these talentless idiots get through because of the young people (especially girls) voting for them !

This is why fix factor continues as the young vote and Simon knows to fix the show so these kind of acts survive and get the young voters lining his pocket

That’s the society we live in today when young people think “camp” towie style acts and talentless boybands are the best and even role models to them (very sad) such as Cheryl cole, tulisa etc

The future is bleak for proper talent to blossom – RIP talent – no wonder a lot of talented people never make it !

Only way to stop these votes if we get everyone to stop watching and voting !

  21. Sarah Russell says:

Absolute Rubbish i really cant beleive that idiot Rylan is STILL in im telling you if he dont go next week i for 1 WONT EVER WATCH X FACTOR again and hope that people like me who see real talent wont be fobbed off with the likes of bloody Rylan or who was it before oh yeah JEDWARD i mean come on ITV get a grip if you dont play fair and get rid of the real crap and leave the talented alone then watch your bloody ratings start to go down

  22. jjohnf says:

tulisa obviously fancies one of disrict3 or else she cant stand a more talented woman than herself being on the show

  23. beth says:

jjohnf.. you got it spot on! mel has more talent in her pinky finger than tulisa could ever dream of having in her whole body!

  24. Tammy says:

The best one is Lucy by far and MK1 too.

  25. Tammy says:

Christopher – YAWN, thank god wailer melanie has gone, boybands are so crap and dated… Infact, the tele is muted nearly all the way through XF. Lucy and MK1 are so cool, funky and current. Louis hasn’t a clue, his song choices are cringy. Loving Nicole though and even though Rylan can’t sing, he’s quite funny. Oh and Jermaine? WTF? His mickey mouse chuckle is enough to press mute. What a drip. Okay, rant over lol.
