X Factor 2012: Simon Cowell imposes sex and booze ban on Jahmene Douglas, Ella Henderson, Union J – finalists kick off over Rylan Clark
Simon Cowell has apparently laid down the law for this year’s X Factor contestants.
After he failed to impose a curfew or any real strict rules on last year’s finalists and Frankie Cocozza subsequently went right off the rails, it is reported that he has vowed not to make the same mistake in 2012.
The music mogul may be busy working on the US version of the talent show, but insiders say he has sent word down the wire that the final twelve acts left in the competition must obey his new rules.
Instead of living in a huge house together, this year the finalists are all residing in a plush London hotel and a source has claimed that the singers have all been warned about drinking and striking up sexual relationships with one another.
They told Closer magazine:
“Simon’s ordered a strict ban on bad behaviour – there’s a drinking curfew in place and it’s been made clear that absolutely no sex is allowed.”
That’s probably a wise thing given a) the young age of some of the contestants and b) the furore that erupted when Frankie reportedly used and dumped Amelia Lily during the ITV series last year.
It may cause problems for new lovebirds Ella Henderson and George Shelley though but not for Jahmene Douglas, who recently admitted that he has never slept with a woman…..or a man for that matter.
The insider continued:
“They’ve been told you’re here to work, not to play”
The so called insider also claimed that things behind the scenes of the X Factor are less than harmonious, following the elimination of Carolynne Poole at the weekend.
The country singer found herself in the bottom two alongside the former model and due to Louis Walsh’s indecision and eventual backing of Clark, she was voted off and it seems some of her fellow contestants are not at all pleased.
The judges are reportedly livid too and the source said:
“The judges all kicked off massively over Rylan, apart from Louis, who was the only one who wanted him in the finals.”
Well we imagine that Nicole Scherzinger must have wanted him too….she did pick him after all!
They added: “And the other contestants felt like he has taken a place he doesn’t deserve.”
Hmmmm we’re not sure we believe this, as many of the finalists have come out in support of Rylan in recent days and even Carolynne herself asked fans not to hate on the singer, insisting that her elimination was not his fault.

what complete hogwash.Simon Cowell would encourage any bad (legal,no drugs)behaviour as it creates publicity. Why do you think they are living in a hotel.I bet there will be a story in the Sun very soon about how one or a few! contestents have “Trashed” their rooms causing x amount of damage! I wish i could become a script writer for the x-factor myself!!!
Ryan’s cringy performances may increase tv viewing rating. The truth is, the majority public who don’t vote and don’t care about good or bad singers on X Factor just want to laugh at his silly antics. He does deserve to be there as a joked act because the public can never take him seriously. He will survive again if he does Ghangnam Style to make the audience laugh and vote for him. Remember Jackward etc? They all go on to have good careers after X Factor compared to so many failed X Factor winners.
X Factor is not a true talent contest. It’s really a soap opera, like East Enders etc., which uses a theme of a group of young hopefuls trying to become famous singers. It is certainly scripted in outline, leaving the judges only there to fill in the details. There are two results to each season: first some people make a lot of money; second, and far less important, one to four acts get a recording contract.
Then judge the whole business from that point, and everything fits into place. Is Carolynne good enough to get a number one album out there? No, so the show’s puppet-master allows her to be crushed like a fly to develop controversy and increase the viewing figures. More like that to come? Absolutely!
Come on, we all know that it is just entertainment. (well obviously not all of us)
When it stops being that; the viewing figures will drop and it’ll all be over!
I for one was shouting at the TV: “You cant let Rylan go, he’s hilarious, it’ll become boring, please let Louie alter his original choice” and my wish came true! Magnificently sculpted drama, at Carolyne Poole’s expense yes. But damn it made great TV!
