Nathan Fagan Gayle has admitted that he was desperate to succeed when he entered the X Factor this year.

Many people have criticised the singer for applying for the show, after he already released record and supported acts such as N Dubz, JLS and The Wanted on tour.

However, he said he felt it was the only option left open to him, most likely because his last single charted badly.

Nathan explained:

“As long as I can remember all I have been focussing on is my music, on trying to be successful. Its been everything to me.”

He added:

“I have had so many knockbacks, I feel like I’ve failed time and time again. I want this more than anything, more than anything in the world.”

On last night’s show Nathan was seen performing for Nicole Scherzinger and Ne-Yo at bootcamp and while Nic loved his tone and raved:

“I think he’s got a wicked tone, I think he’d sound great on a record,”

Ne-Yo wasn’t sure about his persona and added:

‘It felt like ‘look how cool I am’, it almost takes away from the fact that he’s actually a pretty good singer.’
