X Factor 2012: Union J admit they emulated Westlife during ‘Fix You’

Union J have admitted that they may have take a leaf out of Westlife’s book when they performed on The X Factor this evening.

The boyband performed Coldplay’s Fix You on the sixth live show of the series and dedicated their performance to the armed services.

The performed while sitting on stools and at the end, all rose as they enacted a key change. It seemed like a typical Louis Walsh / Westlife / Boyzone routine.

Speaking afterwards on the Xtra Factor the lads laughed:

“We tried to do a little Westlife twist with the key change but we went down instead of up.”

The fab foursome received brilliant comments from the judges after their song, with Gary Barlow praising them and saying that they had ‘an edge’ over competitors District 3.

Nicole Scherzinger added:

“Beautiful song boys, you did it justice. Thank you for recognising and honouring the men and women of the armed forces.”

Things could have ended very differently if the performance had went anything like the dress rehearsal the lads revealed and added:

“Rehearsals were a bit iffy, things changed and we were worried about going out. It was a car crash but I hoped we pulled it out of the bag ….. it was fun.”

Always lovely and Jaymi’s voice is stunning, one of the best in the entire series.

I thought they did an absolutely beautiful version of this song. I thought their harmonies were fantastic and the song choice was perfect. They were performing live, remember. I can’t understand why there’s so much criticism of such a lovely rendition of Coldplay’s lovely song.
