X Factor 2012: Union J’s Jaymi Hensley thanks fans for support & he really can sing that he’s glad to be gay as next week’s Abba & Motown theme is revealed!

As we reported yesterday, Union J band member Jaymi Hensley revealed that he’s gay having been encouraged by his mentor Louis Walsh to “come out” to fans…

And in today’s Sun, Jaymi has thanked fans for their “overwhelming support” after he went public with his news.

He said, “It’s been amazing, really amazing. I have not seen one negative comment.

“I want to say a massive thank you for people’s support. It has been incredible.

“I have already had messages from young gay guys saying ‘thank you so much, I can look up to you’, and that’s what I did it for.”

Jaymi’s bandmates, Josh Cuthbert, George Shelley and Jamie ‘JJ’ Hamblett, were also delighted by their fans’ reaction to the news…

They tweeted, “Wanted to say how proud we are of our brother Jaymi for coming out and being proud of his sexuality! We are SO proud.”

And at the risk of being accused of stereotyping, Jaymi may be pleased to hear that next week’s X Factor theme is Abba and Motown…

Following Ella Henderson’s shocking elimination from the show last night, there are of course just five acts remaining, so as we approach the end stages of the contest, each finalist will now sing two songs on Saturday.

The first of their live performances will be an Abba song, the second a Motown track. Then of course, after next Sunday’s elimination, only four artists will remain.

The show’s final is on December 8th.

Here’s a reminder of the moment Ella and James learned they were in the bottom two last night…

And here’s Tom Robinson with his famous track…
