X Factor 2012: Viewers miss the David Walliams funny factor and so do we!

Last night saw the launch of a new season of the X Factor. Naturally ratings are lower this launch – with the good weather and holiday season still present but
of course Simon will never accept this excuse and is sure to demand that people tweak and change proceedings in the coming week.

However the music mogul keeps missing the one thing people actually want to see: a judge with a sense humour. Sure, we have Louis Walsh, but do we laugh with him or at him? The rest of the judges certainly aren’t known for their sharp wit and most guests think insulting a contestant is the same as joking with them.

Last night Twitter was in overdrive with viewers saying they missed the happy and easy going style of “Britain’s Got Talent” earlier this year. Or more to the point they missed a certain aspect, a particular judge. Simon? No, David Walliams.

“x-factor needs David Walliams to bring some humour to that show. The format is boring at the moment. :( ” one viewer summed up.

This is true, judges on a show like this need humour, to take the fear from the air for the contestants, to keep the public entertained and to keep themselves fresh. Walliams displayed the necessary elements so perfectly this year that people are still talking about it and now miss this aspect in other talent shows.

Simon and the media think we watch for the bitch fights, the long legged girl judges in short skirts bitching about who’s more sexy, crying contestants and sob stories. No, we want entertainment, a night where you can just watch and smile away. In the past that is what the talent shows brought and David Walliams gave this back to us on BGT this year, together with perfect contestants like The Showbears, Ashleigh and Pudsey and The Sugar Dandies. Contestants filled with happiness and a sense of fun.

There must be singers out there with this quality who could audition for X Factor instead of the same big voiced screamers that are always singled out.

Thankfully David, who celebrates his birthday on Monday, did keep us entertained by tweeting during the show as he did earlier this week when sexting on Twitter with Steps singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins.

He also spoke out on the Pussy Riot, erm, riot adding:

“Wouldn’t it be great if Pussy Riot ultimately brought down Putin?”

It would David.
