X Factor 2012 week 9: James Arthur steals the show with ‘The Power Of Love’ (VIDEO)
James Arthur revealed yesterday that he was feeling pretty ‘competitive’ ahead of tonight’s semi final and he was certainly pulling out all the stops in terms of his performances.
The 23 year old admitted that he feels he needs to make it as far as the final at least, if he wants to ‘ensure longevity’ in the music industry when the series ends and he told fans on Twitter that he really wanted to perform at his homecoming gig next week, if he makes it through tomorrow’s results show.
“Thanks for all your support! I’ll be at the town hall in Middlesbrough for my homecoming on Tuesday if I’m voted through to the final! Xx”
“Get on those phones tonight people we have to get to the final! #LOVE”
Earlier this evening James performed his first song, ‘One’ by U2 and he followed it up later in the evening with ‘The Power Of Love.’
It’s the first time he’s done a proper ballad on the show but he said he wanted to surprise people and leave them with a good impression of him as he closed the semi final show.
James stood in front of a big broken heart light and delivered a very haunting rendition of the 80s classic and he was right, it was a big change for him.
The vocals were just about perfect and we much preferred it to his first tune. He made it seem current and modern and it seems James has the reverse power of Chris. He can make any song seem new while Maloney strips three decades off his.
Afterwards Louis Walsh said ‘if there is any justice you will be sailing right through to the final. You’ve paid your dues and you’ve got the X Factor.’
Tulisa added ‘this is everything I wanted to see when i watched the X Factor so many years ago.’ She then backed the hopeful to win next week.
Gary Barlow was also a fan and said ‘that was the performance of the series. Just amazing. You are a great singer but you make people emote.’
Nicole Scherzinger added ‘this is why I came to the UK buddy. Come on Great Britain if James isn’t in the final what am I doing here?’
