Gary Barlow is reportedly furious with X Factor bosses and with Sharon Osbourne after he found out that Souli Roots has made the live shows.
This month all four judges took their final six acts from each category to judges houses, where they picked three each for the live shows.
Gary took the groups to New York, Sharon Osbourne took the overs to LA, Nicole Scherzinger took the girls to Antigua and Louis Walsh jetted off to the South of France with the boys.
It’s been reported that not the final 12 are all chosen, Gary wants one of the acts changed and he’s inundating bosses with furious calls over the addition of Souli to the lineup.
Barlow threatened to leave the panel last year when Nicole Scherzinger took Rylan Clark to the lives and was livid when week after week, talented singers were sent home and voted off and the flamboyant Essex singer remained right the way through to the penultimate week.
Gary promised fans he would be a little bit more light hearted this time round and he said only a few weeks ago that he wouldn’t get upset over his costars choices, because he has faith in the public to choose the right winner in the end.
It sounds like all that’s gone out the window now and an insider told The Mirror that the Take That star is expressing his anger over Roots loudly and clearly this week.
An X Factor source said: “Gary wants to find a true star.
“He gets very serious when it comes to the live shows and knows he will be mentoring very good talent.
“He doesn’t want to lose them to acts like Souli, like he did last year. He’s doing all he can to make sure that she doesn’t threaten any of the real contenders.
“Gary enjoys a laugh and some fun, he loves some of the hilarious acts that turn up for the auditions.
“But he believes there is a time and a place for them – and that place isn’t the final.
“He knows he needs to keep Souli out. Even if he doesn’t end up mentoring her, and doesn’t have full control of her destiny, he’ll have a good go at getting rid of her.”
It’s been reported that Barlow was on the brink of leaving the X Factor this year and pnly agreed to return after a sit down meeting with bosses in April, in which he demanded the team became more serious in their search for talent.
He didn’t want any more Jedwards, or Rylans or funny but tuneless performers and while Souli did get the arena on their feet with her Bob Marley performance recently, she is certainly no Leona Lewis.
After her last performance on the show Gaz told the hopeful:
“Well it’s a hot day and that music sounded damn fine to me. The singing though was just alright. We have had a great time today but it’s got to come down to the vocals, they weren’t good enough.”
The source added: “Gary wants this series to be special. He wants to find a proper star and thought everyone involved wanted that as well.”
