Gary Barlow has admitted that he was once offered the chance to take part in the hit Channel 4 reality TV show Celebrity Wife Swap!
The X Factor judge has been married for more than a decade and shares three children with his wife Dawn, who he met when she worked as a backing dancer for his band Take That.
Gaz is best known for his music – and is on the brink of releasing a third solo album before he starts recording with Take That again next year – and his TV work on The X Factor, but he admitted that fans almost got an unprecedented look into his home and family life, as he was asked to star alongside former glamour model Melinda Messenger on the reality TV series.
Gary would have been required to live with the busty blonde for a set period, while her partner would move into his home with Dawn and their children, however Barlow revealed that his wife was less than happy about the idea.
The offer came about when Gary was off his game, out of the charts and dare we say it….fat. Thankfully he turned the offer down and speaking on this weekend’s episode of The Xtra Factor he reveals:
“In the years when I was having a ‘rest’ I got approached by Celebrity Wife Swap and it was going to be with Melinda Messenger. ”
Barlow was keen for a comeback of sorts and was ready to agree to the show, however Dawn was slightly more discerning and told her husband it was a definite no.
“I went straight to my wife and went, ‘Babe this would be amazing’, and she just looked and saw Melinda and went forget that.”
Gary also admitted that he doesn’t always like it when auditionees sing his songs at their tryouts. He finds it an uncomfortable experience and explained:
“I can’t make up my mind if it’s really bold and brave or just stupid, I don’t really like it.”
Gary returns to our screens tomorrow night on the ITV series, when he fronts another round of closed room auditions, before taking fans into London’s Wembley Arena to see the hopefuls on the big stage on Sunday.
In real life, he’s just got back to the UK after recording judges houses in New York, where he whittled down six hopeful groups to just three for the live shows.
Barlow also asked fans this week how they would like to see him promoting his new record next month and tweeted this week asking:
