X Factor 2013: Mel B to replace Tulisa after telling Simon Cowell ‘I’ll save the ratings!’
Mel B has reportedly been pleading with Simon Cowell to give her a spot on the X Factor judging panel this year.
The music mogul has already put her in place on the America’s Got Talent panel in the US but the mum of three is apparently keen to add another string to her bow and wants to work on the ITV singing show also.
It’s apparently no secret that Cowell has been scouting for a replacement for Tulisa Contostavlos who is reportedly about to be axed from the panel and Mel thinks that after a successful guest judging stint in 2012 and of course her experience on the Australian version of the show, she would be perfect to take the vacant spot.
Mel is tied up with AGT shows until early June, but it’s been reported that she intends to return to the UK as soon as the series wraps, so she can take a seat alongside Louis Walsh and meaning that she would only miss a few X Factor audition sessions.
“Mel’s been telling Simon and Louis: ‘I’ll save the show’s ratings!'” a source told Closer magazine.
“She’s been saying she’d be perfect because she loves drama, which she knows the viewers love.”
Mel was less than soft with the hopefuls when she helped out on the show last year and hit the headlines when she criticised a cute pensioner and slammed a few girl bands, telling them they just weren’t good enough.
However it’s this straight talking that appeals to Cowell it would seem.
“Simon loves Mel’s no-nonsense attitude and thinks she could shake up the show. Last year, it had its lowest ratings ever, and Simon’s desperate to turn everything around,” the insider continued.
It was reported recently that Simon is currently trying to decide between hiring Mel and bringing back Sharon Osbourne, who left the show in 2008 because of a feud with Dannii Minogue.
Cheryl Cole is a distinct possibility too, though the latest line of thinking is that she may be offered her spot back on the X Factor USA lineup.
“Everyone is in the dark about line-up,” the source concluded. “Cheryl Cole and Sharon Osbourne are in the running too.”
