X Factor 2013: Nicole Scherzinger’s track Boomerang at No2 in charts, despite radio snub!
Despite the fact that BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM, among a few others, haven’t been playing X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger’s new track Boomerang, it’s managed to land at No2 in the UK Singles’ Chart!
The Daily Mirror adds, “Although after she shifted 32,520 copies by yesterday – and was, briefly, at No.1 in the midweeks – Capital had a rethink.”
Last month, Radio 1 tweeted that Nicole’s single hadn’t been added to their playlists “due to the amount of other releases this week” and later added that there were “more important releases at the station.” Ouch.
The paper adds that they were told that Capital FM took the same stance as they deemed Boomerang wasn’t “relevant”.
A radio source said, “Usually, will’s stuff flies on to the playlist but this one did not sound like a stand-out hit to them.
“However, the charts are certainly proving the radio experts wrong.”
On Thursday, after Boomerang was at last added to Capital FM’s playlist, Nicole took to Twitter to say, “Woohoo! We finally made a #BOOMerang believer out of them!”
And of course, it’s not the first time that the big radio stations have got it wrong. Last year, Radio 1 caused outrage by refusing to play Robbie Williams’ new track Candy, claiming that he was “too old” to appeal to young listeners.
Bet they felt a bit stupid in light of its runaway success! Here’s a reminder of Nicole’s new track…
