X Factor 2013: Ratings up! Piers Morgan, Leona Lewis & fans hail the return of Sharon Osbourne but she’s planning trouble!
The X Factor team woke up to some pretty decent news yesterday morning, the ratings were up, the buzz was good and people seemed to be reacting very positively to the brand new X Factor series which launched on ITV1 on Saturday night.
It was a new look format, with smaller closed room auditions, followed by the larger arena tryouts but the one thing most people seemed to be talking about was the triumphant return of X Factor queen Sharon Osbourne.
The reality TV star returned to her rightful seat on the panel, after she vacated it following four series’ back in 2007 and she joined Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh in casting her expert eye over the hopefuls in the first instalment.
Twitter was buzzing with comments about her comeback and the mood seemed to be incredibly positive towards the mum of three, with fans praising her hilarious sense of humour and ‘infectious’ laugh.
Former show winner Leona Lewis was glad to see Mrs O back where she belongs and tweeted:
“Yey @MrsSOsbourne is back on @TheXFactor I luv her!”
Her former America’s Got Talent co star Piers Morgan was uncharacteristically nice too and posted:
“No surprise to see @MrsSOsbourne trending – she makes everything more amusing. #XFactor”
One fan commented:
“Sharon you are just so funny.. I’m glad your back an your laugh is just infectious it’s amazing! @MrsSOsbourne #XFactor”
Another couldn’t stop laughing at Shaz and said:
“Catching up on #xfactor and @MrsSOsbourne has got me laughin so hard my belly hurts! X”
Ratings showed that viewers are coming back to the show and after a disappointing year in 2012, things were definitely on the up for the opening weekend. Almost 8.8 million viewers tuned in to watch the latest batch of contestants try their luck in front of the new look panel, which is almost 700,000 up on the same show last year.
It’s not all good news and that figure is still the second lowest since the launch of season three back in 2006 but the show won 40% audience share and it’s hoped the numbers will continue to lift next week, as the buzz surrounding Sharon’s comeback continues to row.
Osbourne took to Twitter to offer thanks to all her fans and to explain why she thinks bosses got the balance right this year. She wrote:
“After 10 years @TheXFactor panel is the way it should be, you’ve got 2 artists & 2 managers. Artists & managers look at talent differently.”
“Your @TheXFactor tweets are fabulous! Thank you all so much for the love, sending it right back at you! Big hug, Mrs.O”
She joked that things could still get even more feisty soon and teased:
