X Factor 2013: Rita Ora reveals why she chose not to replace Gary Barlow / Tulisa Contostavlos
Rita Ora has admitted again that she was asked to join The X Factor judging panel this year and revealed why she turned down the chance to star on the show.
The lineup for the ITV series is set to be confirmed this month and before Rita even spoke out, it was reported that Gary Barlow was leaving and Tulisa Contostavlos was facing the sack.
Insiders say Gaz wanted to go back to concentrating on his own music career and his new Take That tour, while Simon Cowell feels Tulisa needs to be replaced in order to boost the ratings.
It seems that at least one of those stories is true, as the RIP singer told BBC Breakfast hosts this morning that she was approached by producers, but turned them down because she feels she needs to work on her own music, before mentoring anyone else.
“I was two singles in at the time [the offer was made] and in all respect to the show, I love the show and I watch it all the time, but as a judge I feel it’s such a full commitment and at the moment I wouldn’t be able to work my hardest at it.”
“I think that’s a great career as well but I feel like it needs to be balanced out.”
Reiterating her point for all the tabloid journalists watching her interview Ora insisted:
“No I’m not going to be a judge on X Factor, currently.”
However, after she acted as a guest judge in London last year, Rita did admit that she may return in that capacity during the course of the new series. She continued:
“I would love to [make a guest appearance]. The X Factor has been supporting me so well, I performed twice last year, I was a guest judge, so anything they ask me to do of course I’ll do it for them.”
Tulisa hinted recently that she may not be back for the 2013 run and admitted that she wants to spend time concentrating on her acting career.
“I am getting back into my acting career this year. There’s a couple of films in the pipeline.”
“It was pretty much a crazy year and everything felt like it was crammed in from recording the album to X Factor, everything was just insane.”
“It feels good to be out the way. I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter.”
She may have some extra cash in her pocket to get her new career kick started too, as it was reported yesterday that the former N Dubz singer is planning to sue Will.i.am over his newest single ‘Scream and Shout’. He released the track with Britney Spears but Tulisa insists that she wrote some of the lyrics.
