During Wednesday night’s live broadcast of the National Television Awards, after X Factor lost out to Strictly Come Dancing in the Best Talent Show category, host Dermot O’Leary joked “Oh Simon is going to be up on us now…”
And apparently, though said in jest, Dermot was quite right as TV Biz reports that X Factor boss Simon Cowell has ordered a meeting of the show’s producers to talk over how to improve it this year.
Of course, it’s not the first time that such “crisis talks” about the show have been hastily convened, however, during the meeting that’s to be held next week at Sony’s London HQ, it’s believed that the fate of the show’s judges, Nicole Scherzinger, Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos will be decided…
The paper states, “Insiders claim Simon was already planning to drop Gary and Tulisa — but Gary could jump before he is pushed to save face, citing his Take That commitments.”
But ahead of the meeting, X Factor sources have revealed that some plans for the show’s revamp are already in motion, such as the axing of arena auditions…
However, in a new twist, wannabes will be “tested” in front of a live audience before the Judges’ Houses round.
Of the talks next week, Simon told the paper, “There are a series of meetings taking place.
“All the Brits are coming in, all the Americans, and we’re gonna make some decisions then.
“We’re going to mix it up.
“You’ve just got to try to make a better show than you did the year before. And if you do that, there’s a good chance you can get the numbers up.”
We will of course keep you posted on any further developments, but for now, here’s a look at an interview with some of the stars of SCD after the awards ceremony…
