The X Factor returns this weekend and for the first time this year viewers will get an insight into what really went on at bootcamp.
After a full round of closed room auditions, then the arena rounds the judges managed to whittle down thousands of contestants to just over 200 for the bootcamp stage.
The last remaining hopefuls were put up for four days in a hotel in Wembley and over the course of the week performed one by one for the panel as they were whittled down to just 24 for judges houses.
It was a difficult process and ran very differently to previous series’. This year the judges knew which category they were going to be mentoring for the 2013 run so Gary Barlow was responsible for picking the bets groups, Louis Walsh was in charge of choosing the boys, Nicole Scherzinger had the final say on which girls made it through and Sharon Osbourne cast her eye over the overs.
To make things even more stressful as each category’s auditions began, producers placed six seats at the edge of the stage and the panel decided after each performance, and in front of the 4,000 strong audience, who was through and who was going home. Nothing was written in stone though and on more than one occasion a performer who had one a space on one of the coveted chairs was later ousted in favour of a more talented hopeful.
A promo for this weekend’s shows features former fan favourites such as builder and rocker Joseph Whelan, teenage songstress Tamera Foster, ex girlfriend of The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes Lydia Lucy, prison officer Sam Bailey, and troubled teen Hannah Sheares singing their hearts out in the hope of winning a place in the final 24.
Tune into the X Factor tomorrow, ITV1, 8.20pm to see who makes it through to judges houses and who is out of the contest for good.
