Tomorrow night’s X Factor contestants are brimming with confidence, none more than 82 year old William, from Essex.

William is a retired dance teacher who has brought along his daughter and granddaughter for support. Age is no issue for William, who believes at 82 there is still time for him to make his lifelong dream come true; “Right from a young child I wanted to be in this profession but never got the opportunity.”

Dermot: “And how are you feeling about meeting the judges?”

William: “I’m over the moon, I like all of them, I think they’re great”

Dermot: “I think the ladies might take a shine to you”

William: “Do you reckon?”

Dermot: “Oh yeah, just go in there and twinkle the eyes, you’ll have Miss Cole in the pocket, don’t worry about that.”

“If I won the competition,” William tells us, “That will be the answer to my prayers.” Will William charm the judges?

Simon: “OK and William why are you here at 82 years old?”

William: “Well, this is my last chance!”

Simon: “Yeah, right…where would you be in 7, actually I’ll shorten that, where would you be (the audience boos) I didn’t mean it like that. Where would you be in three or four years time?”

William: “I hope at the top!”

Simon: “Good for you, and William what are you going to sing?”

William: “Come Fly With Me.”

Dermot is watching on the side with William’s supporters: “Simon’s clicking, Simon never clicks.” He may be clicking but he still said no. However William got three yes’s and that was enough to see him through to bootcamp. Did he deserve it, probably not, but sure he’s a good story and that matters more.
