X Factor Beats Robin Hood

The BBC’s newest Saturday night show ‘Robin Hood’ had lost 1.5 million viewers by its second episode last week. Only 6.7 million viewers tuned in at the weekend – compared with 8.2 million for its debut.

The X Factor, which had an audience of 7.3 million beat the show hands down leaving ITV in the lead for yet another week.

BBC bosses had hoped that the new Robin Hood series would be able to match the popularity and ratings of Doctor Who, but so far the show seems doomed to failure.

Critics were positive about the show but viewers posting their reviews on the BBC’s own website have been less impressed. One wrote that the new series “made Kevin Costner’s film version look like a work of genius”.

No offence to the Beeb, ITV 2 has been showing the old Robin Hood constantly on a loop for the last two years. Surely the BEEB can do something better than bring back something that has been remade constantly since the 1950’s.

I watched some of it and frankly I was bored not because it was poor , just because I had seen the re-re-re- repeats of the 1980-1990’s version constantly and was just bored of the
    “Hooded Man”

X-factor may be an old format but at least the acts are new. The BBC has the idea of remaking everthing for the next generation but that is just revolution as Alan partridge once said.

What they need is evolution, I hate to say this but they need to find a new drama, family comedy or a variety show. They’ll be remaking worzel gummidge, black beauty, heidi, the demon headmaster etc.

To be inspired for drama you have to read books and novels as the early producers did, watching old TV programmes only inspires you to produce Old TV programmes again and again and again…….

Who said media people are creative wasn’t living in the UK 2006.

Note to the Beeb you should have Clannad sing your “new” theme tune as their version has a better sound.

Interesting to note, that at my local hmv all the dvds of Robin Of Sherwood have sold out. Its a much more superior piece of television than the woeful bbc version on at the moment. Richard Carpenters version was much better. Who wants to watch a stuck up, full of himself toff, ? I’d rather watch the michael praed version myself, something that is still relevant to the people of today. No need to ‘update’ anything, remake RoS if you wish, but keep the elements that made it a huge success. Come on ITV, get one over on the BBC and show how its supposed to be done.
