X Factor: Gary Barlow chickens out of talking to T’Pau’s Carol Decker on The Xtra Factor
Carol Decker was due to go onto the Xtra Factor tonight, to berate Gary Barlow for calling her tuneless on the live X Factor show earlier in the evening, however the Take That star reportedly refused to speak to her.
Gary insulted the T’Pau singer after Amelia Lily sang their hit single ‘China In Your Hand’ as part of guilty pleasures week, when he told the 17 year old:
I remember the original of this song and it was nice to hear it sang in tune for once!
Immediately afterwards, Carol took to Twitter to call Gary a ‘twat’ (read more here) and just minutes later told her fans that she would be calling into the ITV2 spinoff show.
However the plans changed and she later tweeted:
He bottled it.
Carol added:
They called me & then pulled it.
Seems that Gary isn’t brave enough to back up his comments.
Decker later defended herself and her song, writing:
Last word on the matter china in your hand at no 1 for 5 weeks this time 24 years ago out of tune for the whole time apparently
But she was supportive of young Amelia and added:
sterling shot at it by a 16 year old & it’s a hard song I should know!!!

She then changed it to ‘they bottled it’ so I doubt it was actually Gary that pulled out, he’s already proven he doesn’t care what people think about him so I don’t see why he wouldn’t talk to her on air
your right emily shes just a has been never was that thinks shes a star, nice songs shame about the head we all had to look at back in the 80s at least the new versions sung by someone normal looking
Seriously? Just because you don’t think she’s attractive that means she has no right to a) be a good singer and b) defend herself against someone attacking her career. She was way more famous and talented in her heyday than some child who happens to be in the spotlight for a couple of weeks…
Gary should know better.
T’Pau were a genuine band, not a manufactured one like Take That. T’Pau charted higher in the US than Take That did. They didn’t release covers. Their first album went quadruple platinum.
It’s called respect, and it’s obviously something he didn’t learn, then again why would he on a career which was founded on teen pop songs.
I’d really like to see Carol and Gary sing the same song one after another and we can all decide personally who is the more talented singer…as a musician myself, I’m pretty sure where the objective vote will lie.
Carol is a real artist, a successful one at that, and she has every right to kick off over what seems like nothing more than a vitriolic, and cheap, attempt to get a laugh at her expense.
No, he was right to avoid the confrontation. If he’d spoken to her on air it would have detracted from the contestants and the show. It’s not about Carol Decker – right or wrong it was a passing comment and she comes across as desperate for some long lost attention.

I like her defense that she was at number one for 5 weeks. Thats one more week than Crazy Frog, the lyrical and musical genius that he was!
